Together they traverse a scorched post-apocalyptic America, the lawless 1850s Texas-Mexico borderlands, and a drug deal gone fatally wrong. A superb way to discover — or complete a collection of — one of America's greatest literary voices.

About the Books
The Road follows a father and his young son as they trudge through a grey, burned-out America, pushing a shopping cart of scavenged supplies and carrying "the fire" of hope and humanity between them, even as the world around them has lost both. Blood Meridian traces the horrifying journey of a nameless teenage drifter known as "the kid," who joins a real-life gang of scalp hunters roaming the Texas-Mexico border, in a novel that strips away the romantic myth of the American West and replaces it with something far darker and more biblical in scope. No Country for Old Men begins when Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong in the desert — corpses, heroin, and two million dollars — and decides to keep the cash, triggering a merciless pursuit by one of fiction's most unsettling villains, Anton Chigurh, while an ageing sheriff looks on at a world he can no longer understand. Across all three books, McCarthy's spare, relentless, and often startlingly poetic prose style is unmistakable, exploring violence, fate, and morality with a clarity few writers have matched. Two of the three novels were adapted into major, award-winning films, introducing McCarthy's bleak, uncompromising vision to an even wider audience and cementing these stories as staples of modern American literature.

Three major novels from a Pulitzer Prize-winning literary giant, bundled in one set

Includes The Road, Blood Meridian & No Country for Old Men

Brand new paperback editions — ideal for gifting or collecting

Perfect for fans of literary fiction, crime thriller, and post-apocalyptic fiction

Two titles were adapted into critically acclaimed feature films

Compact paperback format, easy to read, store, and take anywhere

About the Author
Cormac McCarthy (1933-2023) was an American novelist and playwright renowned for his stark, uncompromising prose and deep exploration of violence, morality, and the American landscape. Told through the distinctive, darkly funny voice of eighteen-year-old "middle sister," it explores how rumour becomes inescapable reality once a dangerous older man known only as "milkman" begins to take an interest in her. Original in style and unflinching in its portrayal of communal control, this is a modern classic of literary fiction for readers who love challenging, voice-driven storytelling.

About the Book
Set during an unspecified conflict in an unnamed city, evoking Belfast during the Troubles, Milkman follows a young woman who becomes the object of unwanted attention from a much older, powerful paramilitary figure referred to only as "the milkman." As whispers spread through her tightly wound community, she finds herself trapped by a rumour she cannot control, her every action scrutinised and reinterpreted. Anna Burns builds a suffocating atmosphere through an unforgettable narrative voice: wry, meandering, acutely observant, and laced with dark humour even as it charts real danger and fear. Characters are never named, referred to instead by their relationships and reputations — "maybe-boyfriend," "first brother-in-law," "tablets girl" — reinforcing the novel's themes of surveillance and the erasure of individual identity within a fearful, watchful community. The novel immerses readers directly in the protagonist's interior world, her small rebellions, and her growing awareness of how power operates through whispers rather than force. Winner of the Man Booker Prize in 2018, and later the International Dublin Literary Award in 2020, Milkman has been widely praised as one of the most original novels of its era, frequently cited among the best Irish novels of the twenty-first century.

Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2018 and International Dublin Literary Award 2020

Distinctive, immersive first-person narrative voice unlike any other contemporary novel

Explores timely themes of gossip, surveillance, and gendered power dynamics

Ideal for book clubs, literature courses, and readers who enjoy discussion-worthy fiction

Brand new paperback edition, perfect for building a modern literary collection

A genuine contemporary classic praised by critics and readers worldwide

About the Author
Anna Burns was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1962. Agnes Bain has always expected more from life, dreaming of greater things beyond her tenement walls. But when her philandering husband abandons the family, Agnes turns to drink, and her three children are left to navigate the chaos she leaves behind. Shuggie, the youngest, is different from other boys, and while he tries desperately to become the son Agnes needs him to be, he also quietly begins to understand who he really is. One by one, his older siblings escape to save themselves, leaving Shuggie alone to care for his mother, chasing the elusive glimpses of the woman she once was. Spanning nearly a decade of Scottish history, this is a heartbreaking yet deeply humane story of resilience, addiction, and the unconditional, complicated love between a mother and son. Douglas Stuart's prose is spare, precise, and searingly honest, capturing both the brutality and the tenderness of working-class Glasgow life. Shuggie Bain won the 2020 Booker Prize and became a global bestseller, praised for its unflinching yet compassionate portrayal of poverty, addiction, and identity. Set in the small coastal town of Crosby, Maine, it weaves together thirteen interlinked narratives centred on Olive, a retired schoolteacher whose sharp tongue and tender heart quietly shape the lives of everyone around her. Funny, wrenching and deeply human, this is a modern classic of American literary fiction, perfect for readers who love character-driven stories about ordinary lives.

About the Book
Olive Kitteridge is a complex, often contradictory woman: indomitable to some, compassionate to others, and always utterly convinced she is right. A retired schoolteacher in the small coastal town of Crosby, Maine, she moves through the novel's thirteen linked stories sometimes as the central figure, sometimes as a passing presence at the edge of someone else's crisis. Through her, and through the wider community of Crosby, Elizabeth Strout builds a portrait of a life — and a town — across decades: marriages that endure or crumble, children who leave and return, illness, loss, small acts of kindness and cruelty, and the quiet accumulation of regret and hope that makes up an ordinary existence. Strout's prose is spare, precise and unsentimental, yet the emotional impact is enormous; readers consistently describe finishing the book in tears despite few overtly dramatic events. The novel won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and has been praised by critics as one of the finest American novels of its era, later inspiring the HBO miniseries starring Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins and Bill Murray. Whether read as a single sustained narrative or as a set of interlocking short stories, Olive Kitteridge rewards patient, attentive reading with one of contemporary fiction's most memorable and divisive protagonists.

Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner

Basis for the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries

Brand new paperback copy, perfect for gifting or collecting

Ideal for book clubs and literary fiction fans

Character-driven storytelling praised by critics worldwide

Fast, free UK delivery

About the Author
Elizabeth Strout is an American novelist best known for Olive Kitteridge, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. A Room Of One's Own remains one of the twentieth century's most influential essays, arguing for women's creative and financial independence with wit and clarity. Mrs Dalloway follows a single London day with extraordinary psychological depth, while To The Lighthouse threads memory, loss and the passage of time through the story of one family's seaside holidays. The Waves pushes prose to its most experimental and poetic extremes, tracing six intertwined lives from childhood to old age through rhythmic, wave-like monologues. Orlando offers something entirely different: a playful, gender-bending biography spanning centuries, brimming with wit and imaginative daring. Between The Acts, Woolf's final novel, meditates on history, art and community through the lens of a village pageant, its elegiac tone all the more resonant given the circumstances of its posthumous publication. Together, these six titles showcase Woolf's stream-of-consciousness technique, her piercing social observation, and her enduring relevance to conversations about gender, creativity and the inner life. Whether read in sequence or dipped into individually, this collection rewards patient, attentive reading and repeated return.

Complete set of six essential Virginia Woolf works in one purchase

Brand new paperback copies, ideal for handling, travel and annotation

Perfect for university courses, book clubs and literature enthusiasts

Showcases Woolf's full range, from essay to experimental fiction

An excellent gift for readers who love classic and modernist literature

About the Author
Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was an English writer widely regarded as one of the most important modernist authors of the twentieth century. Beautifully bound and built to last, it is an essential addition to any serious reader's bookshelf or a thoughtful keepsake gift.

About the Book
Crime and Punishment tells the story of Rodion Raskolnikov, a destitute former student in St Petersburg who becomes consumed by a dangerous theory: that certain "extraordinary" individuals are permitted to transgress moral law for the greater good. To test this idea, and driven by poverty and desperation, Raskolnikov murders a pawnbroker and her sister. What follows is not a conventional crime thriller but an unflinching psychological study of guilt, paranoia, and the human conscience. As Raskolnikov spirals deeper into isolation and torment, he is drawn into a tense game of cat-and-mouse with a perceptive investigator, while his relationship with the compassionate Sonya offers a path toward confession and redemption. Set against the grim backdrop of poverty-stricken Russia, Dostoevsky weaves a masterful exploration of morality, free will, and the limits of human reason. First published in 1866, the novel remains one of the most influential works of philosophical fiction ever written, studied and loved by generations of readers for its searing insight into the darkest and most redemptive corners of the human soul. The Trial follows an ordinary man ensnared by an incomprehensible legal system, a chilling meditation on guilt and power that gave rise to the word "Kafkaesque." The Metamorphosis, Kafka's most famous novella, opens with a shocking bodily transformation and unfolds into a stark exploration of identity, family duty, and alienation. The Castle presents a surveyor's endless, frustrated attempts to reach a remote governing authority, left unfinished at Kafka's death yet celebrated as a great study of bureaucracy and isolation. The accompanying Short Stories distil Kafka's voice into brief, disquieting narratives showcasing his gift for absurdist parable and dark humour. Letters to Milena collects Kafka's intimate correspondence with journalist Milena Jesenská, offering rare insight into his private anxieties and creative preoccupations. Together, these five titles span the full range of Kafka's output — long-form fiction, short prose, and personal writing — giving readers a genuinely rounded entry point into his work. Treasure Island, first published in 1883, is the definitive pirate adventure — a rip-roaring tale of buried treasure, mutiny and moral ambiguity told through the eyes of young Jim Hawkins, and the source of many of our most enduring pirate tropes, from treasure maps marked with an X to the parrot-shouldered buccaneer. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, published in 1886, is a masterpiece of psychological horror, exploring the duality of human nature through the chilling transformation of the respectable Dr Jekyll into the monstrous Mr Hyde — a story so influential that "Jekyll and Hyde" has entered everyday language. Kidnapped, from 1886, follows young David Balfour through betrayal, shipwreck and the Scottish Highlands in a gripping tale of survival and loyalty set against real historical events. Together these three works display Stevenson's mastery of pace, atmosphere and character, and this single, beautifully produced leather-bound volume brings them together in a format worthy of their stature, with sewn binding and premium paper designed to last a lifetime on any bookshelf.

Three complete, unabridged Stevenson classics in one deluxe volume

Elegant leather-bound hardback with gilded page edges and a ribbon marker

Durable, heirloom-quality binding built to last for generations

A standout gift for classic literature lovers, collectors and students

Perfect for building a beautiful home library display

About the Author
Robert Louis Stevenson (born Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson; 13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer. Rounding out the collection, Anne's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall offers a bold, socially daring account of a woman's flight from an abusive marriage, tackling themes of independence and domestic cruelty considered shocking for its time and still resonant today. Together, these three novels showcase the astonishing range of the Brontë sisters' talent — Gothic romance, psychological drama and social realism — delivered in the atmospheric prose that made their work immortal. Isolated and unfulfilled, Connie begins a passionate affair with Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the Chatterley estate, and finds in their relationship a physical and emotional honesty entirely absent from her marriage. Lawrence uses the novel to explore the gulf between mind and body, aristocracy and working class, industrial modernity and the natural world, all filtered through frank, explicit language that was unprecedented for its time. The book's four-letter words and candid descriptions of sex meant it could not be published in an unexpurgated form in Britain for over thirty years. It was only after Penguin Books successfully defended the novel against prosecution under the Obscene Publications Act in 1960 that the full text was made available to the general public, a trial that became a defining moment in the history of free expression and literary publishing. Today, the novel is recognised not for its notoriety alone but as a serious meditation on intimacy, vitality and living authentically. Yet the king's marriage to Anne Boleyn, once passionately desired, has soured. Anne has failed to give Henry the son he craves, and her sharp tongue and fierce will have alienated the old aristocracy and even Cromwell himself. Over three terrifying weeks, Anne stands accused of adultery, incest and treason, while Jane Seymour waits quietly in the wings. Cromwell must orchestrate the queen's downfall while protecting his own position and the future of the English crown. Written with Mantel's trademark blend of psychological insight, dazzling prose and meticulous historical detail, Bring Up the Bodies brings Tudor England to vivid, unsettling life. It earned Mantel a second Man Booker Prize, cementing the Wolf Hall trilogy's reputation as a landmark of modern literary fiction. Blending memoir with masterful storytelling, it captures Hemingway's fascination with big-game hunting and his deep love of the wilderness. Widely regarded as a landmark of literary non-fiction, it remains one of the most vivid travel narratives of the twentieth century, essential reading for admirers of classic American prose.

About the Book
Written in the same spare, muscular prose that defines Hemingway's fiction, Green Hills of Africa is a first-person journal recounting the author's real-life safari across the plains and hill country of East Africa. Hemingway set out to write a wholly true book, one that could compete with the imaginative power of a novel while relating events exactly as they happened. The result is an intimate, often self-critical portrait of a man testing himself against nature, chasing kudu and rhino through unforgiving terrain, and grappling with rivalry, fatigue and the thrill of the hunt. Alongside the action, Hemingway weaves in reflections on writing, on other authors, and on what it means to live and work with integrity. His descriptions of the East African landscape are rendered with a naturalist's eye and a poet's economy, capturing both its beauty and the encroaching threat of human interference. First published in 1935 and reissued here in Vintage Classics' handsome paperback edition, the book endures as a fascinating window into Hemingway's own character and obsessions, as well as a snapshot of a vanished era of African exploration. Set against the turbulent backdrop of post-Revolutionary France, it follows Jean Valjean, a former convict seeking redemption after years of unjust imprisonment for stealing a loaf of bread. Relentlessly pursued by the unforgiving Inspector Javert, Valjean's journey intertwines with an unforgettable cast of characters: the tragic Fantine, her orphaned daughter Cosette, the roguish Thénardiers, and the idealistic student revolutionary Marius. Through their interconnected lives, Hugo weaves a sweeping narrative that spans decades, culminating in the dramatic June Rebellion of 1832 in Paris. Far more than a story of one man's redemption, the novel is a passionate examination of poverty, injustice, love and sacrifice, cementing its place as an enduring symbol of hope and humanity. Seeking what the dying poet François Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps," he transfers to Culver Creek Boarding School in Alabama, hoping to find something more meaningful. There he falls in with a tight-knit group of friends and becomes utterly captivated by Alaska Young — clever, funny, self-destructive and endlessly fascinating. Alaska pulls Miles into her orbit, launching him into a new life far removed from anything he has known: late-night pranks, illicit cigarettes, philosophical debates and an aching, unspoken love that quietly consumes him. The novel is split into two distinct halves, "before" and "after," pivoting around a sudden tragedy that forces Miles and his friends to confront grief, guilt and the seemingly impossible task of truly understanding another person, even one they thought they knew completely. Told with John Green's trademark blend of sharp humour and genuine heartbreak, Looking for Alaska is as much a meditation on mortality and meaning as it is a coming-of-age story about first love, loyalty and lasting friendship. It has become a staple of school reading lists and book clubs worldwide, resonating deeply with generations of teen and adult readers alike for its unflinching honesty about grief, identity, forgiveness and the endless search for the "Great Perhaps" that lives in all of us.

Key Benefits

Award-winning YA classic — winner of the Michael L. When a brand-new elevator plunges into freefall on her watch, Lila Mae is plunged into a citywide conspiracy involving corrupt guild politics, racial prejudice, and a rivalry between two schools of inspection philosophy. Sharp, strange, and quietly devastating, it remains one of the most inventive American novels of the last thirty years.

About the Book
Set in a vividly imagined metropolis where elevator inspection is a matter of civic pride and political power, The Intuitionist introduces a world split between two rival schools: the Empiricists, who inspect elevators by rigorous physical measurement, and the Intuitionists, who "ride" a car and sense its faults instinctively. Lila Mae Watson, the department's first Black woman inspector, is a devoted Intuitionist with a spotless record. When a newly inspected elevator in a prestigious building suffers a catastrophic freefall, she becomes the prime suspect in a scandal engineered to discredit her entire discipline during a heated guild election. As Lila Mae digs for the truth, she uncovers secret writings, buried rivalries, and a conspiracy that reaches into the highest levels of city government. Blending noir detective plotting with speculative invention and sly social allegory, Whitehead uses the humble elevator as a lens onto race, ambition, bureaucracy, and the promise (and failure) of American progress. First published in 1999, the novel announced Whitehead as a major new voice in American fiction. Tolstoy's masterful storytelling captures the full sweep of Russian society, from glittering Moscow ballrooms to quiet country estates, painting an unforgettable portrait of love, jealousy, ambition, and redemption. Widely regarded as one of the greatest novels ever written, Anna Karenina explores universal themes of desire, morality, and the search for happiness with extraordinary psychological depth. Ahab has one purpose: to hunt down and destroy Moby Dick, the giant white whale that maimed him on a previous voyage. What begins as an ordinary whaling expedition steadily transforms into an extraordinary study of vengeance, fate, and humanity's fragile place within the natural world. Melville weaves together thrilling seafaring adventure with philosophical digression, technical detail on whaling life, and unforgettable characters, from the tattooed harpooner Queequeg to the haunted, unyielding Ahab himself. The prose shifts between propulsive action and reflective, almost meditative passages, creating a rhythm that mirrors the vast, unpredictable ocean at the heart of the story. When the sharp-witted Elizabeth Bennet meets the proud, reserved Mr Darcy, their early clashes give way to a story of misjudged first impressions, social pressure, and slowly unfolding affection. Set against the backdrop of the English landed gentry, Austen follows Elizabeth as she navigates her family's expectations, the machinations of society, and her own quick, sometimes unfair, judgments of those around her. Through their evolving relationship, Austen builds a story rich in wit, irony, and social detail, exploring class, marriage, and personal growth that remains resonant today. This deluxe edition preserves Austen's original text in full, presented with premium production values that elevate the reading experience: a robust hardback binding, elegant sprayed edges, and a clean, readable layout that lets the prose take centre stage. The title novella follows travelling salesman Gregor Samsa, who wakes one morning to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect. What follows is not horror in the conventional sense, but a devastating meditation on isolation, family duty, guilt, and the fragile line between belonging and rejection. Kafka's prose is deceptively plain, delivering the absurd with a flat, matter-of-fact tone that makes the strangeness feel unnervingly real, drawing readers deeper into Gregor's shrinking world with each page. Alongside this centrepiece, the volume brings together further short stories exploring similarly Kafkaesque territory: power struggles between generations, bureaucratic cruelty, punishment, and the individual's helplessness before impersonal systems and authority. Together these stories reveal why Kafka's name has become shorthand for a particular kind of modern anxiety, one where logic and nightmare intertwine. Readers encounter a writer obsessed with thresholds: between man and animal, father and son, freedom and confinement, sanity and despair. This deluxe sprayed edge hardback presentation elevates the reading experience, transforming a set text into a genuine keepsake for students of modernist literature and existentialism, as well as lifelong Kafka devotees seeking a beautifully bound edition for their collection.

Key Benefits:

Deluxe hardback edition with eye-catching sprayed edges for a premium, collectible finish

Features Kafka's iconic novella The Metamorphosis alongside further short stories

Ideal for literature students, book clubs, and fans of existential and modernist fiction

A thought-provoking gift for readers who enjoy classic European literature

Compact, durable hardback format perfect for shelf display or gifting

About the Author:
Franz Kafka (1883-1924) was a German-language writer born in Prague, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Told through the measured, wry observations of narrator Nick Carraway, the novel exposes the moral emptiness beneath the wealth, glamour, and reckless abandon of the Jazz Age. Gatsby's relentless devotion to Daisy drives a tangle of relationships shaped by class, ambition, and illusion, while Fitzgerald's spare, musical prose balances biting social critique with genuine tenderness. Iconic imagery, from the green light across the bay to the desolate valley of ashes, has secured the novel's place as a cornerstone of American literature. Widely studied in schools and universities, The Great Gatsby continues to resonate as a meditation on wealth, love, memory, and the elusive promise of reinvention. Under the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, they draft the Seven Commandments of Animalism, determined never again to live under tyranny. Yet as the story unfolds, the pigs twist the rules to serve their own ambitions, and the farm slides into a new, more insidious form of oppression. Orwell's tight, satirical narrative uses unforgettable characters, from the loyal cart-horse Boxer to the propaganda-spouting Squealer, to dramatise the corruption of revolutionary ideals and the mechanics of totalitarian control. Written as an allegory of the Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalinism, the novel resonates far beyond its original context, offering a chilling meditation on power, language, and truth that feels as urgent today as in 1945. Misselthwaite Manor is a place of closed doors, hidden sorrow, and a mysterious garden locked away for a decade. As Mary explores the grounds with the help of a cheerful robin and Dickon, a local boy with a gift for befriending wild creatures, she finds the door to that forgotten garden. What follows is one of literature's most beloved tales of renewal: nursing the garden back to life awakens Mary's own capacity for joy and resilience, and eventually helps heal her frail, reclusive cousin Colin. First published in 1911, Burnett's novel has enchanted readers for over a century with its gentle blend of mystery, nature, and emotional depth. This deluxe hardback edition presents the complete, unabridged classic text in a beautifully bound format with sprayed page edges, as satisfying to display as it is to read. Themes of grief, healing, friendship, and the restorative power of nature run throughout, offering young readers lessons about empathy, patience, and hope, while adult readers will find fresh resonance in Burnett's atmospheric prose. Through his precise, restrained narration, Ishiguro unpicks a lifetime of duty, missed opportunity and unspoken love, set against the backdrop of a fading aristocratic England between the wars. It remains one of the most acclaimed British novels of the twentieth century, winner of the 1989 Booker Prize and adapted into a beloved film starring Anthony Hopkins.

Never Let Me Go imagines the lives of a group of students growing up in a quietly unsettling version of contemporary England. Narrated by Kathy, now thirty-one, the novel traces her attempts to make sense of her childhood at the seemingly idyllic Hailsham School, and of the fate that has always awaited her and her closest friends. A haunting meditation on love, friendship, memory and mortality, it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and named one of Time magazine's 100 best English-language novels since 1923. Set largely in 1950, it follows Dr Norton Perina, a young doctor who journeys to a remote Micronesian island and stumbles upon a hidden tribe seemingly untouched by time. Told as a fictional memoir, the novel is a slow-burning exploration of ambition and consequence, essential reading for admirers of Yanagihara's later work.

About the Book:
Long before Hanya Yanagihara became a literary sensation, she announced herself with this audacious, unnerving debut. Narrated largely through the memoirs of disgraced Nobel laureate Dr Norton Perina, the novel recounts his 1950 expedition to the fictional Micronesian island of Ivu'ivu, where a small anthropological team hears rumours of a lost tribe said to have achieved something close to immortality. What Perina finds among the island's forest dwellers - people who live for centuries but lose their minds along the way - sets in motion a discovery that will make him famous, wealthy and, ultimately, notorious. Framed by his former colleague and editor, the narrative gradually reveals the darker cost of Perina's ambition, both to the islanders whose culture he disturbs and to the children he later adopts. Yanagihara's prose is dense, meticulous and unsettling, building a portrait of a brilliant but morally compromised man whose triumph curdles into catastrophe. The novel interrogates the ethics of Western scientific exploration, the exploitation of indigenous communities, and the corrupting pull of a discovery too significant to walk away from. It is by turns an adventure story, a character study and a slow-building horror, refusing easy answers about culpability. Fans of Yanagihara's later novel A Little Life will recognise the same unflinching interest in trauma and self-justification, delivered here in a debut critics have called one of the most striking of its decade.

Key Benefits:

A brand-new paperback of a widely acclaimed literary debut, ideal for morally complex fiction fans.

Explores themes of science, colonialism and immortality - perfect for book clubs.

Written by the bestselling author of A Little Life and To Paradise.

Compact paperback format, easy to read, travel with, or gift.

About the Author:
Hanya Yanagihara is an American novelist and editor. Sacked from her research post, Elizabeth reluctantly becomes the reluctant star of a cookery show, using it to quietly champion science, equality and independent thinking. Sharp, funny and unexpectedly moving, this modern classic has become a global phenomenon, adapted into a hit Apple TV+ series, and is a must-have for fans of witty, character-driven historical fiction with real emotional heft.

About the Book:
Set in the early 1960s, Lessons in Chemistry introduces Elizabeth Zott, an exceptionally gifted chemist whose career at the Hastings Research Institute is derailed at every turn by the casual sexism of her era. Pushed out of the lab, Elizabeth unexpectedly finds herself hosting Supper at Six, a television cooking programme that she transforms into something far more radical: a platform for teaching women chemistry, confidence and the courage to question the world around them. Told with dry wit and genuine warmth, Bonnie Garmus weaves together romance, grief, motherhood and scientific curiosity into a story that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. Elizabeth's singular voice, her devoted dog Six-Thirty, and a supporting cast of vividly drawn characters bring real texture to a narrative that never shies away from injustice, yet still finds room for humour and hope. The novel's exploration of gender inequality in mid-century America feels strikingly relevant today, and readers consistently praise its balance of laugh-out-loud moments and quietly devastating ones. It has become one of the defining word-of-mouth bestsellers of recent years, translated into dozens of languages.

Key Benefits:

Multi-million-copy international bestseller praised for its wit, warmth and originality.

A unique heroine in Elizabeth Zott, whose story champions science, resilience and equality.

Now adapted into a critically acclaimed Apple TV+ television series.

Perfect for book clubs, gifting, and fans of thoughtful historical and women's fiction.

Blends genuine emotional depth with sharp, laugh-out-loud humour.

About the Author:
Bonnie Garmus is an American author and former copywriter and creative director who has worked across technology, medicine and education, and has lived in the US, Switzerland and the UK, where she now resides. This new hardcover edition is built for cover-to-cover reading and long-term keeping, with a sturdy binding suited to a horror shelf, a study, or a thoughtfully chosen gift. Expect ancient, indifferent beings, secret cults, half-glimpsed horrors in New England towns, and protagonists whose sanity frays as they learn more than they should. Lovecraft's prose is dense and deliberate, favouring mounting dread and suggestion over graphic violence, and the stories reward slow, attentive reading. For newcomers, this hardback works as a guided introduction to his recurring ideas: cosmic insignificance, forbidden texts, and the fragility of the human mind confronted with the truly alien. For long-time readers, the durable hardback format makes it easy to return to favourite stories again and again, and it presents well on a shelf alongside other horror classics. Lovecraft wrote as pulp horror and early science fiction were converging, and his blend of clinical description and creeping unease has influenced generations of later writers. This hardback edition is a solid, giftable way to experience one of horror fiction's most distinctive voices.

Key Benefits:

Brand new hardback collection of H.P. Though he published mainly in pulp magazines such as Weird Tales during his lifetime and achieved little commercial success while alive, his relatively small body of fiction has gone on to exert enormous influence over the horror genre. He is best known for creating the Cthulhu Mythos and popularising cosmic horror, in which humanity is small and largely irrelevant against vast, ancient, uncaring forces. Following Thomas Cromwell as he navigates the King's infatuation with Jane Seymour and the swift downfall of Anne Boleyn, this novel is a masterclass in historical fiction. When the King's eye turns from Anne Boleyn to the quiet Jane Seymour, Cromwell is tasked with the delicate and dangerous business of dismantling a queen. Cromwell is a study in contradiction: ruthless yet reflective, a self-made man navigating a world built on inherited privilege. The narrative moves with tense, controlled precision towards its chilling conclusion, the trial and execution of Anne Boleyn, rendered with a psychological intimacy rarely achieved in historical fiction. Meticulously researched, the book brings authentic Tudor detail to life without ever feeling like a history lesson, embedding real events within a gripping story about the tales people tell to justify what they do. Awarded the Man Booker Prize and the Costa Book of the Year, and adapted into a BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning BBC television series, this novel is a modern classic essential for anyone drawn to the drama of the Tudor court.

Key Benefits:

Winner of the Man Booker Prize and Costa Book of the Year — a true modern classic of historical fiction.

Immersive, meticulously researched depiction of Henry VIII's court and the fall of Anne Boleyn.

Complex, morally layered characters that reward book club discussion and re-reading.

Loved by fans of the acclaimed BBC television adaptation starring Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis.

Compact, portable paperback format ideal for reading on the go or at home.

About the Author:
Dame Hilary Mantel (1952–2022) was one of the greatest English novelists of her generation, best known for her epic Wolf Hall trilogy. It traces Count Dracula's journey from his Transylvanian castle to the streets of Victorian London, and the desperate fight waged against him by Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, Dr Seward, and Professor Van Helsing. First published in 1897, Stoker's novel established many of the conventions that continue to define vampire fiction today, blending folklore, emerging science, and primal fear into a narrative that still unsettles modern readers. The accompanying stories in this edition extend Stoker's fascination with the unexplained, drawing readers into haunted houses, isolated landscapes, and encounters where reality and nightmare blur together. Across every tale, Stoker's command of mood and pacing shines, building suspense through careful detail rather than shock alone. Together, these works form a compact but rich introduction to Stoker's horror writing, revealing the anxieties of the fin-de-siècle era around science, empire, and the unknown. This sprayed-edge hardback edition presents the text in a durable, attractively finished binding, making it equally suited to a first read, a reread, academic study, or simple display on a bookshelf. It is a fitting way to experience one of the most influential horror novels ever written alongside lesser-known but equally atmospheric companion pieces, giving readers a fuller picture of Stoker's range across the horror genre and the Gothic tradition he helped shape for generations of writers who followed him.

Key Benefits:

Includes Stoker's landmark novel Dracula plus a selection of his atmospheric horror stories.

Sprayed edge hardback finish makes this a striking, gift-ready keepsake edition.

Durable binding suited to display, rereading, and long-term collecting.

Ideal for fans of Gothic and Victorian literature, horror classics, and vampire fiction.

A thoughtful gift for book lovers, students of literature, and collectors alike.

About the Author:
Abraham "Bram" Stoker (1847–1912) was an Irish writer, barrister, and theatre manager whose career spanned law, the stage, and fiction. Acting on this theory, he murders a pawnbroker, setting in motion a spiral of guilt, paranoia, fever and self-contempt that consumes him long before the police close in. Dostoevsky renders Raskolnikov's disintegrating mind with astonishing psychological precision, moving between claustrophobic dread and flashes of tenderness as characters such as the compassionate Sonia and the shrewd investigator Porfiry Petrovich draw him toward confession and possible redemption. Set against the grime, poverty and social upheaval of nineteenth-century St Petersburg, the novel interrogates free will, nihilism, suffering and justice with a depth that has kept it on essential reading lists for over 150 years. This deluxe limited edition elevates the reading experience with high-quality materials and an elegant presentation, making the novel's harrowing descent into guilt and its hard-won path toward grace feel like a genuinely special literary object rather than an ordinary paperback read. Alice must navigate shrinking potions, growing cakes and a courtroom of playing cards, all while holding onto her sense of self amid the nonsense. Through the Looking-Glass carries her further into a chessboard-shaped realm where she becomes a pawn working toward becoming a queen, meeting Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the flustered White Queen, and reciting the celebrated nonsense poem Jabberwocky. Together, bound in one handsome hardback, these two novels showcase Carroll's gift for wordplay, whimsical logic and unforgettable characters. The experiment succeeds in creating the sinister Edward Hyde, but Jekyll soon discovers he cannot control when or how his darker self emerges. Stevenson builds mounting dread through suggestion, rumour, and slowly gathered evidence rather than overt horror. The result is a taut psychological thriller that interrogates the fragile boundary between civility and violence, respectability and secrecy. The additional stories broaden the reading experience, revealing Stevenson's skill across shorter Gothic and moral fiction. Together, these narratives make a satisfying single-volume introduction to Stevenson's darker fiction, rewarding newcomers and returning readers alike. K. arrives in a snow-bound village claiming appointment as land surveyor by the unseen authorities of the castle above, only to be swallowed by an impenetrable bureaucracy. Readers who love philosophical fiction, existential literature, or stories exploring power and exclusion will find this precise, unsettling narrative essential, now presented as a striking edition built to last on any bookshelf.

About the Book
K.'s first night in the village sets the tone for an endless sequence of misunderstandings. He seeks access to the castle officials who supposedly summoned him, yet every inquiry leads to contradictory instructions and nameless intermediaries. The novel follows his growing entanglement with villagers who accept the castle's authority without question, while K. remains an outsider determined to assert his rights. Kafka renders administrative procedure with meticulous, almost forensic detail, turning the simplest request into a labyrinthine obstacle that steadily erodes K.'s confidence and grip on reality. The atmosphere blends stark realism with dreamlike dislocation — rooms feel both claustrophobic and vast, and conversations circle endlessly without resolution. Through K.'s relationships, particularly with the women who mediate between him and the officials, the story examines longing, humiliation, and the very human need for recognition. The novel's unfinished quality, left incomplete at Kafka's death, only heightens its power, leaving questions of arrival and failure permanently suspended. This sprayed edge hardback preserves Kafka's spare, lucid sentences, the very quality that makes the absurdity feel inevitable rather than exaggerated. The result is a reading experience that lingers long after the final page, prompting quiet reflection on contemporary institutions that similarly withhold clarity while demanding compliance.

Key Benefits

Premium sprayed edge hardback binding designed for display and long-term preservation

A central text for studying modernist, existential, and bureaucratic themes

Precise, spare prose that rewards close analysis and repeated readings

Explores questions of belonging and exclusion still deeply relevant today

A striking, giftable edition for collectors of classic literature

About the Author
Franz Kafka (1883–1924) was a German-language writer born in Prague whose spare, lucid prose and nightmarish visions of modern life reshaped twentieth-century literature. It tells of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his long, perilous journey home after the ten-year Trojan War. Blown off course by the wrath of Poseidon, he must outwit the man-eating Cyclops Polyphemus, resist the enchantments of the sorceress Circe, sail safely past the deadly song of the Sirens, and brave the terrors of Scylla and Charybdis. Meanwhile, in Ithaca, his wife Penelope fends off a horde of arrogant suitors while his son Telemachus grows into manhood searching for news of his father. Interweaving thrilling sea adventure with the quieter tension of a household under siege, the poem builds toward Odysseus's eventual, hard-won homecoming and reckoning. Themes of loyalty, identity, cunning intelligence and the pull of home run throughout, giving the narrative a depth that has kept readers returning to it for nearly three millennia. What follows is a slow, disorienting descent into a legal system that operates according to its own opaque logic, where meetings are endlessly delayed, lawyers offer little genuine help, and every attempt to seek clarity only deepens the confusion. Kafka builds dread not through violent incident but through the quiet accumulation of absurd detail: strange courtrooms tucked inside ordinary apartment buildings, indifferent clerks, and a bureaucracy that expands the harder Josef pushes against it. As the story progresses, readers watch his composure erode while he tries to maintain his dignity in a system stacked against comprehension itself. The novel blends the mundane textures of everyday life with a dreamlike, surreal internal logic, creating a reading experience that feels both familiar and deeply strange. Its lasting power comes from the suggestion that innocence counts for little when institutions act without accountability. Decades after it was first published, The Trial remains a touchstone for conversations about state power, personal autonomy, and facing systems no individual fully understands. When the Sleeper Wakes follows a man who wakes two centuries later in a radically transformed London. The Time Machine & Other Stories sends its inventor-narrator hurtling into humanity's distant future. The Invisible Man tells of a scientist whose discovery of invisibility spirals into paranoia and violence. The Island of Doctor Moreau confronts readers with horrifying experiments blending human and animal, probing the ethics of unchecked ambition. What begins as an optimistic revolution slowly curdles as the pigs, led by the cunning Napoleon, consolidate power and rewrite the founding principles of the farm to suit their own ends. Through spare, deceptively simple prose, Orwell dissects how language can be twisted into propaganda, how revolutionary ideals can be hollowed out from within, and how power tends to concentrate among the few at the expense of the many. Characters such as the loyal horse Boxer and the world-weary donkey Benjamin embody different responses to political upheaval and quiet complicity. First published in 1945 as a satire of Stalinist Russia, the novella's warnings about totalitarianism and the corruption of ideals have proved timeless, and it remains a staple of school curricula and reading lists worldwide. His clear prose and opposition to fascist and communist totalitarianism shaped his best-known works, including Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Wandering the underworld in the present day, Penelope looks back on her marriage, her cunning cousin Helen of Troy, and the real story behind the slaughter of her twelve maids on Odysseus's return — a detail Homer brushes past in a few lines, but which haunts Penelope for eternity.

Told with Atwood's trademark wit and wickedly sharp prose, the novella interweaves Penelope's first-person narrative with a Greek-chorus commentary from the murdered maids, who demand their own version of events be heard. The result is a dark, playful and deeply feminist reimagining that questions who gets to tell history and whose suffering gets footnoted. First published in 2005 as part of the Canongate Myths series, this edition appears in Canongate's Canons imprint, which gathers classic and modern classic fiction in a smart, collectible paperback format.
