Overview
This three-book paperback collection brings together Lawrence Anthony's celebrated true-life conservation memoirs alongside his wife Françoise Malby-Anthony's own account of carrying on his legacy. Set against the wild backdrop of Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, the books trace a journey of trust, courage and heartbreak between humans and the animals they fight to protect, making this an essential collection for anyone who loves nature writing, memoir or true wildlife stories.
About the Books
The Elephant Whisperer recounts how Lawrence Anthony, against all advice, took in a herd of troubled 'rogue' elephants destined to be culled, slowly earning their trust and reshaping his outlook on the natural world. It remains one of the most loved wildlife memoirs of its generation. An Elephant in My Kitchen picks up the story after Lawrence's sudden death, told by his wife Françoise Malby-Anthony as she steps into the role of custodian of Thula Thula. Facing poachers, floods and the task of running a reserve alone, she reveals the emotional and practical realities of continuing a conservation legacy while forging her own bond with the herd. The Last Rhinos returns to Lawrence Anthony's own writing, chronicling his urgent, often dangerous efforts to protect one of the world's last northern white rhinos, and his wider fight against the poaching trade threatening rhino populations across Africa. Together, the three books form a powerful, interconnected portrait of one family's devotion to wildlife conservation, blending adventure, tragedy and hope in equal measure.
About the Authors
Lawrence Anthony (1950-2012) was a renowned South African conservationist and owner of the Thula Thula game reserve, co-writing The Elephant Whisperer and The Last Rhinos with journalist Graham Spence. His work bringing troubled elephants and endangered rhinos back from the brink made him an internationally recognised voice for wildlife protection. Françoise Malby-Anthony, Lawrence's wife, continues to run Thula Thula today. She wrote An Elephant in My Kitchen with Katja Willemsen, sharing her own journey of resilience, loss and hope in the years following Lawrence's death.
Why You'll Love This Collection
Honest, heartfelt and gripping, these three memoirs bring the sights, sounds and struggles of Thula Thula vividly to life. A must-have set for readers who believe in the connection between humans and wild animals.
