Overview
Journey back to the indomitable Gaulish village with this five-book Asterix collection, gathering Books 36 to 40 of the world-famous series. Written by Jean-Yves Ferri (36-39) and Fabcaro (40), with artwork by Didier Conrad throughout, these full-colour paperback adventures continue the legacy of Goscinny and Uderzo with the same wit and wordplay that has entertained generations. A brilliant introduction or top-up for young comic fans and lifelong collectors alike.
About the Books
This set brings together five stand-alone adventures showcasing the enduring charm of the Asterix universe. In The Missing Scroll, the village must stop a Roman publisher erasing Caesar's Gaulish defeats from history. The Chariot Race sends Asterix and Obelix across Italy in a race rigged by a scheming senator. In The Chieftain's Daughter, the pair guard Vercingetorix's fiercely independent daughter, who has other ideas about being protected. The Griffin takes the heroes into the frozen north to rescue captives and track a legendary creature alongside fearless Amazon warriors. Finally, The White Iris sees a suspicious new philosophy sweep through the Roman ranks, threatening the village's spirit, sending our heroes on a mission to break its spell. Each book stands alone, packed with sword fights, feasts, puns and the trademark slapstick humour the series is loved for, while the magic potion and bumbling Romans remain a constant thread of comedy. Beautifully illustrated in the traditional bande dessinée style, these books work equally well read aloud or read independently by confident young readers moving into graphic novels.
About the Authors
Jean-Yves Ferri is a French writer and cartoonist, hand-picked by Albert Uderzo to continue the Asterix series, writing Books 35 to 39 alongside illustrator Didier Conrad. Fabcaro (Fabrice Caro) is a French author and comic book writer known for his sharp humour, who took over the writing for Book 40. Didier Conrad has illustrated the series since 2013, carrying forward the visual style established by Uderzo. Together they continue the legacy of original creators René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
