Overview:
Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap series turns bedtime and playtime into a giggle-fuelled guessing game. Each sturdy board book splits into top-and-bottom flaps, letting little hands mix and match heads, bodies and tails to invent brand-new silly creatures. Across ten habitats - from the farmyard to the frozen tundra - children meet familiar animals reimagined with hilarious hybrid names, bouncy rhymes and Scheffler's unmistakably warm, expressive artwork that has delighted families for decades.
About the Books:
Every title in this ten-book set follows the same much-loved format: sturdy split pages that flip independently, so toddlers can combine a lion's head with an elephant's body, or a chicken's head with a cow's body, to create a brand-new (and very silly) animal. With well over 100 possible combinations in each book, children return again and again to discover fresh mash-ups and funny made-up names like purkey, shabbit and elephingo. Farm, Jungle, Pets, Zoo, Minibeasts, Safari, Ocean, Dinosaurs, Frozen and Forest each explore a distinct habitat, gently introducing early vocabulary and animal recognition alongside pure comic entertainment. The rhyming, read-aloud text is short and punchy, perfect for developing early listening and speaking skills, while the chunky board pages and split binding are built to survive enthusiastic little hands. Scheffler's bold outlines and bright palettes make every spread instantly engaging. As a complete set, the collection offers brilliant variety while keeping the comforting flip-flap rhythm children love.
