Overview

Beautiful World, Where Are You is Sally Rooney's Sunday Times and Global number one bestselling novel, a sharp, tender exploration of friendship, love and connection in the modern world. Following two women in their late twenties navigating career, romance and the search for meaning, this brand new paperback edition brings Rooney's celebrated prose to readers looking for intelligent, emotionally resonant contemporary fiction. A must-have for fans of literary fiction and coming-of-age storytelling.

About the Book

Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, and impulsively asks him if he'd like to travel to Rome with her. Meanwhile in Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood. Told through alternating perspectives and a series of intimate emails between Alice and Eileen, the novel weaves together four lives caught between ambition and uncertainty. Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young, but life is catching up with them fast. They desire each other, they misunderstand each other, and they wrestle constantly with questions of sex, friendship, faith, politics, and the strange times they live in. Rooney's trademark sparse, precise style captures the ache of modern relationships with unflinching honesty, examining how people try to build meaningful lives and connections amid personal doubt and a world that often feels chaotic. Big questions about capitalism, beauty, and whether it's even possible to live an ethical life sit alongside deeply human moments of longing, humour and vulnerability. As the characters drift towards and away from one another, the novel asks whether love and friendship can offer something like redemption. It is a story that is at once intimate and expansive, funny and devastating, and it confirms why Rooney has become one of the most acclaimed literary voices of her generation.
