Overview
The Classic Stories 10 Books Collection Set brings together ten much-loved retellings by John Yeoman, brought vividly to life by Sir Quentin Blake's unmistakable illustrations. Drawing on traditional fables, folk tales and fairy stories, these gentle, funny tales are perfectly pitched for children aged 5-7 building reading confidence. A wonderful introduction to storytelling, this paperback set is ideal for bedtime, classroom shelves, or a first proper book collection all of their own.

About the Books
Each paperback in this collection contains several short stories, carefully retold from folk and fairy tale traditions found around the world. In The Wild Washerwomen, seven overworked washerwomen down tools and run wild, meeting their match in seven unruly woodcutters. The Bear's Winter House and The Bear's Water Picnic follow a good-natured bear whose neighbours test his patience and hospitality. Mouse Trouble is a lively caper of mischief, while The Heron and the Crane offers a wry fable about pride and missed chances. Beatrice and Vanessa, Sixes and Sevens and Rumbelow's Dance add character-driven humour and gentle chaos, and Mr. Nodd's Ark delights animal lovers. Rounding off the set, The Young Performing Horse is a charming tale of talent and self-discovery. Throughout, Yeoman's witty storytelling sits alongside Blake's instantly recognisable illustrations, rewarding both reading aloud and quiet independent reading.
