Overview
The Complete Novels of D.H. Lawrence brings together four of the most influential works of twentieth-century English literature in one brand new paperback box set. Spanning Lady Chatterley's Lover, The Rainbow, Sons and Lovers, and Women in Love, this collection captures Lawrence's unflinching exploration of desire, class, family, and identity. Ideal for literature students, book clubs, and collectors, it offers an affordable, complete introduction to a writer whose work continues to provoke and inspire discussion nearly a century after publication.
About the Books
Each novel in this collection stands as a landmark of modern fiction. Lady Chatterley's Lover follows Constance Chatterley as she breaks free from a loveless marriage and societal constraint through her affair with gamekeeper Mellors, a story that famously tested the boundaries of censorship on first publication. The Rainbow traces three generations of the Brangwen family across sixty years of social and personal change in rural England, examining marriage, faith, and the tensions of modernity. Sons and Lovers, widely read as semi-autobiographical, portrays the fraught marriage of Gertrude and Walter Morel and the intense, often possessive bond between mother and son as young Paul searches for independence and identity. Women in Love continues the story of the Brangwen sisters, Ursula and Gudrun, as they navigate love, art, and the shifting values of a post-Victorian world through their relationships with Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich. Together, these four novels showcase Lawrence's psychological depth, lyrical prose, and willingness to confront taboo subjects of class, sexuality, and industrialisation, cementing his reputation as one of the most daring and important novelists of his era.
About the Author
D.H. Lawrence (1885–1930) was an English novelist, poet, and essayist, widely regarded as one of the most significant and controversial writers of the twentieth century. Born in Nottinghamshire to a coal-mining family, his early life informed much of his fiction's preoccupation with class and industrial England. Lawrence's novels, including Sons and Lovers and Lady Chatterley's Lover, challenged contemporary attitudes toward sexuality, relationships, and social convention, and several works faced censorship battles upon release. Today his novels are recognised as landmark contributions to modern English literature.
