Overview
Designing Your Work Life applies the design-thinking method that made Designing Your Life a phenomenon directly to the workplace. Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, both of Stanford University, show readers how to reframe unhelpful beliefs about their careers and build small, testable changes that lead to a job that feels genuinely meaningful. Whether you want to reinvigorate a role you already hold or plan a bigger move, this practical hardback offers a clear framework for designing lasting career satisfaction.

About the Book
When Designing Your Life was first published, it became an instant #1 New York Times bestseller, teaching readers to treat their whole life as a design problem with workable, testable solutions rather than something to be endlessly analysed and worried over. In Designing Your Work Life, Burnett and Evans turn that same toolkit toward the place most of us spend the majority of our waking hours: work. Rather than assuming the answer is always to quit and start over, the authors argue that most people can build a far better relationship with the job they already have. Central to the book is the idea of the "dysfunctional belief" — an unhelpful story we tell ourselves about our career, such as feeling permanently stuck — paired with a "reframe" that opens up new options and small experiments to test them. Through practical exercises, real-world case studies and the same design-thinking mindset used across Silicon Valley and Stanford's celebrated design courses, readers learn to identify what is and isn't working, prototype changes, and build a working life that is more productive, more engaged and more fun. It's a hopeful, action-oriented guide rather than a theoretical one, aimed at readers who want tangible next steps.
