Overview
The Diary of a Young Girl is Anne Frank's extraordinary first-hand account of life in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam. This Wilco Classics sprayed-edge premium hardback presents her words in a beautifully finished, collectible edition, with sturdy binding that make it as much a keepsake as a book to read and pass on to the next generation of readers.
About the Book
Given a diary for her thirteenth birthday, Anne Frank began recording her daily life just weeks before her family went into hiding from the Nazis in a concealed annex above her father's Amsterdam office. Over the next two years, she filled its pages with candid reflections on family tensions, first love, boredom, fear, and flashes of irrepressible hope, all while war raged outside the walls that both protected and confined her. What began as a private teenage journal has become one of the most widely read works of the twentieth century, translated into dozens of languages and studied in classrooms worldwide. Anne's writing is remarkable for its immediacy: she writes as a real teenager, impatient with her mother, curious about her body, dreaming of becoming a writer, while the adult world around her disintegrates. The diary ends abruptly in August 1944 when the annex was discovered; Anne died in Bergen-Belsen the following year, one of an estimated six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Her father, Otto Frank, the only survivor of the household, arranged for her diary's publication in 1947, ensuring her voice endured. This Wilco Classics edition honours that legacy in a durable, sprayed-edge hardback built for reading, gifting, and display, bringing history to a new generation of readers.
About the Author
Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank (1929–1945) was a German-born Jewish diarist who documented her family's two years in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Born in Frankfurt, she moved with her family to Amsterdam in the early 1930s to escape rising persecution. After the annex was discovered in 1944, Anne was deported and died in Bergen-Belsen shortly before the camp's liberation. Her diary, preserved by family friend Miep Gies and published by her father, has since become one of the most widely read testimonies of the Holocaust.
Why You'll Love This Edition
