Overview
Step onto the cobbled streets of early twentieth-century Liverpool with this complete two-book Dockside Saga collection from bestselling author Sheila Riley. The Mersey Mistress and The Mersey Angels follow Ruby Swift and her family through tragedy, wartime upheaval, and hard-won resilience on the banks of the River Mersey. Rich with period detail and genuine emotional warmth, these gripping family sagas suit fans of Rosie Goodwin, Dilly Court, and Lyn Andrews. Two brand-new paperbacks, presented together in one great-value set.
About the Books
The Mersey Mistress opens in 1910 on the Liverpool docks, where hard-working, straight-talking Ruby Swift and her beloved husband Archie face devastating tragedy when a bitter Christmas Eve fire claims lives and leaves a trusted employee's family orphaned. Ruby takes heartbroken sixteen-year-old Anna Cassidy into her home, but cannot prevent Anna's twelve-year-old brother Sam being sent away to Canada as a Home Boy by the Church, setting in motion years of painful separation.
The Mersey Angels continues the saga in 1916, as Ruby and Archie move back into Ashland Hall following the death of Ruby's father. With the Great War raging, fathers and sons take the King's Shilling, Archie joins the volunteer constabulary, and nurses Anna Cassidy and Ellie Harrington enlist to do their bit for King and Country. As the true casualties of war arrive home in droves, Ruby converts Ashland Hall into an auxiliary hospital, bringing the Dockside Saga to its emotional, series-closing conclusion.
Together, these two novels form a complete, satisfying story arc of love, loss, courage, and community spirit, set against a Liverpool changed forever by fire and by war.
Key Benefits
About the Author
Sheila Riley writes historical dramas with heart, humour, and heroines who don't back down. Born in Southport and raised in Merseyside, she swapped scissors for storytelling after years working as a ladies' hairdresser, crafting characters whose voices leap off the page. Sheila previously wrote four number-one bestselling novels under the pseudonym Annie Groves before writing under her own name. Her books, including the Dockside Saga, Reckoner's Row and Beamer Street series, are known for rich period detail and genuine emotional pull, and she still lives in Liverpool, close to the docklands that inspire her stories.
Why You'll Love This Set
A complete saga in two satisfying instalments, packed with dockside drama, wartime courage, and a heroine worth rooting for from the very first page to the last.
