Overview

Eddie Albert and the Amazing Animal Gang: The Curse of the Smugglers' Treasure is the second hilarious middle-grade adventure from beloved entertainer and bestselling author Paul O'Grady. Packed with mystery, mischief and a wonderfully wild cast of animal characters, this instalment sees ten-year-old Eddie swap home comforts for the windswept Romney Marshes, where a family holiday quickly turns into a treasure-hunting caper. Warm, funny and full of heart, it's the perfect follow-up for fans who fell in love with Eddie's animal-whispering antics in the first book, and a brilliant standalone read for any young animal lover.

About the Book

Eddie and best friend Flo are spending the Easter holidays on the Romney Marshes with Aunt Budge and all Eddie's animals - Butch the dog, Bunty the hamster and pirate goldfish Dan and Jake. But peace and quiet are not on the agenda for long. When the terrible Rancid Twins roll into town, determined to uncover the secret of the local smugglers' treasure, Eddie and Flo find themselves swept into a brand-new adventure full of twists, turns and unexpected allies. Fortunately, Eddie has a very special gift - the ability to speak to animals - and he's going to need every furry and feathered friend he can find. Two elegant alpacas, a good-natured sheep called Doris and even a famous film-star rabbit all lend a hoof, paw or hoof-clop to help Eddie and Flo outwit the Rancid Twins and uncover a treasure of truly epic proportions. Told with Paul O'Grady's signature warmth and razor-sharp wit, this technicolour, cinematic adventure blends laugh-out-loud comedy with genuine friendship and a fast-paced mystery plot that will keep young readers turning pages late into the night. Illustrated throughout, it's an ideal choice for confident readers moving on from early chapter books into fuller middle-grade fiction, and for any child (or adult!) who has ever wished they could understand what their pet is really thinking.
