Overview
Discover four spine-tingling, heart-warming novels from Emma Carroll, the "Queen of Historical Fiction," in one brand-new paperback set. From a haunted hall to a wartime lighthouse on the Devon coast, these atmospheric stories blend mystery, history and courageous heroines. Perfect for confident readers aged 9-12, this set is an ideal gift for young bookworms who love ghost stories, wartime adventures and gently spooky tales with heart and hope.
About the Books
Frost Hollow Hall follows Tilly, who nearly drowns skating near a reputedly haunted manor, saved by the ghost of Kit Barrington, a young heir who died there a decade before. Tilly takes work as a maid at the Hall to help Kit's spirit rest, uncovering dark secrets in this thrilling Gothic debut about love, loss and forgiveness.
In Darkling Wood tells of Alice, sent to stay with estranged grandmother Nell while her brother awaits a heart transplant. Alice finds solace in the ancient woodland behind Nell's garden - and a new friend, Flo - even as Nell threatens to have the trees felled, sparking a gently magical mystery about belief and belonging.
Letters from the Lighthouse is set in February 1941, when twelve-year-old Olive Bradshaw and her brother Cliff are evacuated from bomb-hit London to the Devon coast, into the reluctant care of gruff lighthouse keeper Mr Ephraim. A gripping wartime tale of secrets, courage and unlikely friendship.
The Snow Sister follows Pearl, who builds a snow figure of her late sister Agnes each winter to make the season feel less lonely. When a letter arrives about a long-lost relative's will on Christmas Eve, Pearl dares to hope for a brighter future for her struggling family.
About the Author

Her debut, Frost Hollow Hall, won the North East Book Award, while Letters from the Lighthouse was chosen as a Waterstones Book of the Month. Emma's books are published in many languages and are popular in primary classrooms. She lives in the Somerset hills with her husband and two terriers.
