Overview
This brand new Eva Ibbotson 3 Book Collection Set gathers three beloved children's novels — Journey to the River Sea, The Dragonfly Pool, and The Star of Kazan — into one gift-ready paperback bundle from Pan Macmillan. Spanning the Amazon rainforest, wartime Britain, and turn-of-the-century Vienna, these award-winning stories celebrate courage, belonging, and family. Ideal for confident readers aged 9 and up, this collection is a wonderful introduction to one of Britain's finest children's authors.
About the Books
Journey to the River Sea takes readers to 1910, where thirteen-year-old orphan Maia travels from England to live with distant relatives in Manaus, deep in the Amazon, accompanied by an eccentric governess harbouring secrets of her own. Together they discover a world of rainforests, rivers, and unfamiliar customs in this colour-soaked, joyous adventure about courage and family. The Dragonfly Pool transports readers to wartime Britain, where Tally Hamilton is sent from London to a boarding school in the countryside, where she discovers friendship, resilience, and an unexpected adventure with a foreign prince. The Star of Kazan opens in 1896 in a pilgrim church in the Alps, where an abandoned baby girl is raised in the servants' quarters of a house belonging to three eccentric Viennese professors, dreaming of the day her real mother will come to find her — until a glamorous stranger arrives with a claim that changes her life forever. Together, these novels showcase Eva Ibbotson's warmth, wit, and gift for whisking readers to unforgettable places.
About the Author
Eva Ibbotson (1925–2010) was an Austrian-born British novelist celebrated for her warm, witty, and richly imaginative children's and young adult fiction. Born in Vienna, she moved to England as a child when her family fled the Nazis, an experience that shaped many of her stories' themes of displacement and belonging. Over her career she wrote more than twenty books, earning nominations for major children's literary awards including the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize and the Carnegie Medal. Journey to the River Sea is widely regarded as her masterpiece.
