About the Books
This collection gathers five essential works that capture the full range of Franz Kafka's singular voice. The Trial follows Josef K., arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority for a crime never revealed to him or the reader, a chilling meditation on bureaucracy and guilt. The Castle tells of a land surveyor, K., who arrives in a village governed by an elusive castle authority he can never quite reach, exploring alienation and futile struggle. The Metamorphosis, perhaps Kafka's most famous story, opens with travelling salesman Gregor Samsa waking to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect, a stark allegory of isolation and family duty. The Short Stories volume draws together further parables and tales showcasing Kafka's gift for the strange, symbolic and darkly comic. Finally, Letters to Milena offers a more intimate side of the author, collecting his correspondence with journalist Milena Jesenská and revealing the anxieties and affections behind the fiction. Together, these five hardback volumes present a rounded picture of Kafka as novelist, storyteller and letter writer, ideal for new readers and those building a complete library of his work.
About the Author
Franz Kafka (1883–1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian writer, widely regarded as one of the most significant literary figures of the twentieth century. Born in Prague, Kafka worked for most of his life in insurance while writing fiction largely in private, publishing only a handful of short works during his lifetime. His novels, including The Trial and The Castle, were left unfinished and published posthumously by his friend Max Brod, against Kafka's own wishes. Today his name is synonymous with "Kafkaesque," describing the surreal, bureaucratic situations his writing so memorably evokes.
Why You'll Love This Collection
A beautifully bound tribute to a literary giant, this five-book hardback set brings together Kafka's novels, stories and letters in one covetable collection, perfect for display, gifting or deepening your appreciation of modern literature's most enigmatic voice.
