Overview
Meet the big skeleton, the little skeleton and the dog skeleton in this irresistible 8-book Funnybones paperback collection by beloved author Allan Ahlberg. Set in a dark, dark house on a dark, dark hill, these eight short, rhythmic stories mix gentle spooky fun with laugh-out-loud humour, making them perfect first readers for young children who love a mild scare with a comforting, silly ending. A brilliant boxed introduction to a nursery-shelf classic.

About the Books
The Funnybones series began with the original picture book by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, introducing three cheerful skeletons who live in a dark, dark cellar and go looking for someone to scare. This 8-book set gathers eight popular follow-up adventures, each a short, self-contained story built around the same simple, repetitive, dark-dark-house structure that has made the series a favourite for decades. In Bumps in the Night, the skeletons bump in the dark until Doctor Bones is called; in Dinosaur Dreams, they are chased by dinosaurs until a friendly dog saves the day; and in Give the Dog a Bone, the dog skeleton comically falls apart bone by bone. Mystery Tour sends the trio driving through six small mysteries, while Skeleton Crew has them shipwrecked by pirates. The Black Cat brings sledging and a sneaky black cat, The Ghost Train takes a midnight fairground ride, and The Pet Shop follows an attempt to swap the dog skeleton for a new pet. Each book is brightly illustrated with short, repeated phrases that build reading confidence, ideal for bedtime, classroom storytime, or a child's first independent reads.
