Overview
This nine-book paperback collection brings together the complete range of George Orwell's most important writing, from his best-known dystopian and satirical novels to his ground-breaking reportage. Presented in matching brand-new paperback editions, it's an ideal way to build a comprehensive Orwell library in one purchase, whether for a first-time reader, a literature student, or a lifelong fan wanting a complete, shelf-ready collection from one of Britain's most influential writers.
About the Books
George Orwell's reputation rests on his unflinching ability to dissect power, propaganda and inequality, and this set traces that vision across nine works. 1984 imagines a totalitarian future ruled by surveillance and doublethink, while Animal Farm distils the same warning into a sharp, fable-like allegory of revolution betrayed. Homage to Catalonia draws on Orwell's experience fighting in the Spanish Civil War, an account of idealism colliding with political reality. The Road to Wigan Pier turns his reporter's eye on industrial England and working-class poverty, while Down and Out in London and Paris recounts his own years living hand-to-mouth. Burmese Days, his debut novel, examines colonial rule through a disillusioned timber merchant in Burma. A Clergyman's Daughter follows a woman's crisis of identity after a breakdown strips away her old life, and Keep The Aspidistra Flying satirises the pressure to conform through a struggling poet's rebellion. Finally, Coming Up For Air looks back at a vanishing pre-war England through a middle-aged salesman's eyes — nine titles spanning Orwell's full career as novelist, essayist and social critic.
About the Author
George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair (1903–1950), an English novelist, essayist and journalist renowned for his clarity of prose and his concern with truth, freedom and social justice. Educated at Eton, he served with the Imperial Police in Burma before turning to writing full time, an experience that shaped Burmese Days. His years among Europe's poor and on the front line in Spain informed his non-fiction, while his final novels, Animal Farm and 1984, secured his place as one of the century's most important political writers.
Why You'll Love This Collection
For anyone wanting Orwell's essential works in one place, this set delivers his sharpest fiction alongside his most revealing non-fiction, all in fresh paperback copies — a complete, affordable introduction to a writer whose warnings feel more relevant than ever.
