Overview
The Girls FC collection brings together six football stories by bestselling author Helena Pielichaty, following a spirited all-girls team as they tackle friendship, family and fair play both on and off the pitch. Each short novel focuses on a different squad member, making these paperbacks ideal for confident young readers aged 7-11 who love sport, school life and stories about determined girls chasing their dreams.
About the Books
This six-book paperback set introduces the Girls FC, an all-girls football team founded by nine-year-old Megan Fawcett after she's overlooked for her school team simply because of her gender. In Do Goalkeepers Wear Tiaras?, Megan builds a team from scratch. The story continues with Can Ponies Take Penalties?, where defender Petra must choose between football and her sister's riding event, and Are All Brothers Foul?, following Lucy as she juggles her parents' divorce and a difficult younger brother. Is An Own Goal Bad? introduces twins Daisy and Dylan, whose chaotic household makes punctuality a real challenge, while Who's Hungry for a Game? sees Holly navigate body-image worries as the season's award ceremony approaches. Finally, What's Ukrainian for Football? follows Nika as she proudly represents Ukraine, her birth country, in a World Cup tournament. Warm, funny and topical, each story tackles real issues while celebrating teamwork, resilience and the joy of the game. Inspired by a real local girls' under-elevens team, the series captures authentic footballing detail alongside relatable friendship and family drama.
