Overview:
Escape to the misty glens and gossiping villagers of Lochdubh with this seven-book Hamish Macbeth collection from Sunday Times bestseller M C Beaton. Following the endlessly resourceful, endlessly reluctant-to-be-promoted Highland constable, these cosy mysteries blend gentle humour, sharp observation of small-town life, and cleverly plotted murders. Ideal for readers who love Agatha Christie-style whodunits with a warmer, wittier edge, this brand new paperback set is a wonderful introduction or a welcome addition for existing fans of the much-loved BBC-adapted series.
About the Books:
Each title in this set drops Hamish Macbeth into a fresh Highland scandal. In Death of a Prankster, a hated practical joker's murder gives the village no shortage of suspects. Death of a Charming Man sees a smooth-talking newcomer turn Lochdubh's women against one another, right up until his convenient demise. Death of a Macho Man follows a blustering incomer whose bullying ways catch up with him. Death of a Scriptwriter brings a film crew to the Highlands, and with them, ambition, jealousy, and a body on set. Death of a Celebrity has a television personality stirring up excitement and resentment before tragedy strikes. Death of a Dreamer explores shattered artistic ambitions turned deadly, while Death of a Nurse uncovers old secrets behind a caregiver's quiet life. Throughout, Beaton's trademark wit, vivid Highland scenery, and a rotating cast of Lochdubh regulars make these page-turners as comforting as they are compelling. These are quick, satisfying reads, perfect for a weekend or dipping into between longer novels.
About the Author:
M C Beaton was the pen name of Marion Chesney, a prolific and much-loved Scottish author best known for her Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin mystery series. Before turning to crime fiction, she worked as a journalist and wrote numerous historical romances. Her Hamish Macbeth novels, beginning in the 1980s, became a bestselling institution and inspired a popular BBC television adaptation. Beaton's warm humour, sharp eye for village life, and gift for engaging plotting won her a devoted international readership until her death in 2019.
Why You'll Love This Collection:
