Overview
Meet a whole menagerie of unforgettable animal friends in this seven-book paperback collection of Jill Tomlinson's Favourite Animal Tales. Gentle, funny and quietly reassuring, these timeless stories follow curious young creatures as they learn about the world, face their worries and grow in confidence. From a barn owl who is scared of the dark to a wonderfully determined little hen, each tale blends warmth, humour and real natural-history detail. About the Books
Each story stars a different young animal on its own small but meaningful journey. In The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, Plop the baby barn owl is perfect in almost every way, except that he is scared of the dark, until new friends help him see the night differently. The Cat Who Wanted to Go Home follows Suzy, a little French cat who drifts off in a hot-air balloon basket and must find her way home across the Channel. The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up introduces Hilda, a small, speckled and hugely determined hen. In The Otter Who Wanted to Know, inquisitive sea otter Pat learns to find answers for herself when adventure strikes. The Penguin Who Wanted to Find Out follows curious chick Otto as he explores life at the bottom of the world. The Gorilla Who Wanted to Grow Up sees mischievous Pongo discover that growing up means more than thumping your chest. And in The Aardvark Who Wasn't Sure, a young aardvark sets out to discover exactly where it belongs. Written with tenderness and gentle humour, each tale rewards young readers with satisfying, confidence-building endings.
