Overview
This collection brings together three of John Steinbeck's most celebrated novels in one brand-new paperback set. The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men are landmark works of twentieth-century American literature, prized for their honesty, social conscience and unforgettable characters. Together they showcase the breadth of Steinbeck's talent, from sweeping family sagas to intimate studies of friendship and hardship, making this set an essential addition for any fiction reader or student of American literature.
About the Books
The Grapes of Wrath follows the Joad family as drought and depression force them from their Oklahoma farm on a desperate journey west to California, in a novel that won the Pulitzer Prize and remains Steinbeck's undisputed masterpiece. East of Eden is an epic, multi-generational family saga set in California's Salinas Valley, retelling the biblical story of Cain and Abel through the intertwined fates of the Trask and Hamilton families across the early twentieth century. Of Mice and Men is the tragic, tightly-woven novella of George and Lennie, two drifting ranch hands bound by friendship and a shared dream of owning their own land, whose hopes are undone by misunderstanding and Lennie's uncontrollable strength. Each novel is grounded in the Great Depression-era American landscape Steinbeck knew intimately, exploring themes of poverty, injustice, resilience and the uneasy relationship between individuals and the land. Reading all three together offers a rounded introduction to Steinbeck's recurring themes of class, labour, family and the fragile American Dream. These editions are widely studied in schools and reading groups, and remain as powerful today as when first published.
