Overview
Escape into a gentle, storybook world with this brand-new two-book paperback set from Japanese illustrator Kanoko Egusa. Symphony of Cute Animals and Kingdom of Curious Creatures combine for well over 150 whimsical, fairytale-inspired scenes of anthropomorphic animals, from raccoon artisans to hare wedding parties. Printed on quality paper suited to pencils, markers and gel pens, this set makes a relaxing creative escape and a thoughtful gift for colourists of any experience level.
About the Books
Symphony of Cute Animals invites you into a charming corner of Egusa's imagination where raccoons work as talented artisans, well-dressed chickadees roam among the flowers, ducklings don berets on their daily adventures, and songbirds pen and deliver letters. Across 88 pages you'll find 80 imaginative illustrations, with some designs spanning full-page spreads to capture wider scenes and others standing alone for a quicker colouring session, each accompanied by a fully coloured example to help spark your palette choices.
Kingdom of Curious Creatures continues the adventure across 96 pages, where a family of ducklings enjoys a garden bath, French Bulldogs mind a farmer's market vegetable stall, piglets nap in antique teacups, forest creatures share a feast, and hares throw an elaborate wedding to remember. As with its companion volume, the artwork was originally published in Japan and features Egusa's signature dip-pen linework, later digitised for crisp, colourable detail. Both books work equally well with coloured pencils, fine markers, gel pens and light washes of water-based media, and both include sample coloured pages to help you get started with confidence.
About the Author
Kanoko Egusa is a Japanese illustrator and designer, born in Sendai, who studied design and drawing at a vocational school in Kanazawa before working as a freelance graphic designer from 2008. In 2011 she founded her own design atelier, creating imaginative worlds populated by animals, flowers and plants. Egusa begins each illustration by hand with a dip pen and ink before digitising the artwork, drawing inspiration from nature and antique books to bring warmth and gentle humour to every scene.
