Overview
Step through the frame and into the world's greatest art galleries with Katie, the endlessly curious little girl who can climb straight into famous paintings! This brand-new 10-book paperback collection gathers ten of James Mayhew's much-loved Katie adventures in one gift-ready set, taking young readers from Van Gogh's sunflowers to the streets of London and the hills of Scotland. Playful storytelling, mischievous mishaps and gentle art-history lessons make this a firm favourite for curious 3-8 year olds and the grown-ups who love reading alongside them, whether shared at bedtime or enjoyed independently.
About the Book(s)
Created by author-illustrator James Mayhew, the Katie series has introduced children to art, history and travel for over twenty-five years, and this ten-book bundle brings together some of the very best adventures. In Katie and the Sunflowers, Katie reaches into Van Gogh's masterpiece and sets off a chain of post-impressionist chaos, while Katie and the Impressionists sees her tumbling through paintings by Monet, Renoir and friends. Katie and the Starry Night, Katie and the Waterlily Pond and Katie and the Bathers each open the door to another iconic artwork, weaving real paintings and painters into charming, funny stories. Beyond the gallery, Katie In London and Katie's London Christmas tour the capital's most famous landmarks with an unusual guide, while Katie in Scotland swaps city streets for lochs and castles. Katie and the Spanish Princess adds royal adventure inspired by Spanish court portraiture, and Katie and the Dinosaurs detours into prehistory at the museum. Each story is written in Mayhew's warm, accessible style and paired with his own detailed illustrations, ideal for reading aloud or independent reading practice. Every book stands alone, so the collection works equally well read in order or dipped into again and again.
