Overview
Released to mark thirty years of Radiohead and twenty-one years since Kid A, this pairing brings together Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood's visual and written archive from the making of Kid A and Amnesiac. One volume showcases hundreds of images built from scrawls, collages and canvases; the other gathers faxes, lyric fragments and notes exchanged between the two collaborators. Together they form an intimate record of one of modern music's most acclaimed creative partnerships, ideal for Radiohead fans, art students and collectors.
About the Books
Kid A Mnesia: A Book of Radiohead Artwork is a full-colour hardback showcasing more than 300 pieces of art created by Yorke and Donwood while Kid A and Amnesiac were being written and recorded. The images range from obsessive biro scrawls and scissors-and-glue collages to six-foot painted canvases and digital landscapes, chronicling recurring obsessions with minotaurs, pylons, dams, volcanoes and ring roads that together paint an unsettling portrait of the turn of the millennium. The book also includes a dialogue between Yorke and Donwood on their creative process, alongside a commissioned essay by Gareth Evans.
Fear Stalks the Land!: A Commonplace Book is the paperback companion, gathering writings exchanged between the two artists during 1999 and 2000: faxes, rough lyric drafts, notes, sketches and lists. Presented as a commonplace book, it captures the fledgling ideas and anxieties that shaped the songs and imagery of the era, offering a rare, unfiltered primary source into how Radiohead's most experimental period took shape on paper before reaching the studio.
About the Authors
Thom Yorke is a musician, composer and artist, best known as lead vocalist and principal songwriter of Radiohead. Stanley Donwood is a graphic designer, artist and writer who has produced the artwork for every Radiohead album and much of their promotional material since 1994. Working together since the mid-1990s, Yorke and Donwood have developed one of the most distinctive visual and lyrical partnerships in contemporary music, long regarded as inseparable from Radiohead's sound.
