About the Books
Each title in this collection follows the same charming picture-book format, tracing its subject from childhood to worldwide acclaim. Audrey Hepburn grew up in wartime Netherlands before training as a ballerina in London and becoming one of cinema's most iconic stars. Emmeline Pankhurst's story follows a girl inspired by tales of heroism who grew up to lead the fight for women's voting rights, changing history through courage and determination. Rosa Parks recounts the childhood of a girl from Alabama who learned early to stand up for herself, and whose refusal to give up her bus seat in 1955 sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped end racial segregation on public transport. Ada Lovelace tells of a mathematically gifted child in Victorian England whose collaboration with inventor Charles Babbage made her the world's first computer programmer. Ella Fitzgerald follows a girl from near Harlem, surrounded by music, who won her first talent competition at the Apollo Theater and went on to become one of the greatest jazz voices of all time. Told in gentle, age-appropriate language and paired with striking illustrations, these hardback biographies make history and inspiration accessible for the youngest readers, while sparking curiosity about art, science, music and social justice.
About the Author
Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara is a writer and creative director from Barcelona who created the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. As a child she loved reading under the covers by torchlight, though her career began in advertising, working alongside photographers, designers and directors. After self-publishing a book that had long been on her mind, she went on to launch the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, now published in dozens of languages and read by children worldwide, each title illustrated by a different acclaimed artist.
