Overview:
Set in the mining towns of County Durham, the Maggie Hope 7 Books Collection gathers seven standalone sagas about mothers, daughters and children facing poverty and hard choices with quiet determination. Written by beloved saga author Maggie Hope, this paperback set suits readers who love authentic Northern settings, working-class heroines and stories of family loyalty tested by hardship. A generous, affordable way to collect a much-loved backlist, it also makes a thoughtful gift.

About the Books:
Each title stands alone but shares Maggie Hope's trademark warmth and eye for period detail. In A Mother's Courage, Eleanor Saint devotes herself to helping poorer families in her mining town, even as her own domestic life grows complicated. The Miner's Girl follows a young woman striving for a better life against a colliery backdrop. In A Daughter's Duty, Rose Sharpe is forced to leave school at fourteen, her hopes of independence crushed by a domineering father. A Daughter's Gift follows Elizabeth, orphaned with her siblings and sent to a children's home; determined and loyal, she fights to keep her family connected. A Daughter's Secret tells of sisters Cath Raine and her sibling, abandoned by their mother and left to fend for themselves in an unforgiving town. In Eliza's Child, new mother Eliza hopes her husband Jack will leave his gambling behind, only to be abandoned when he loses their home. The collection closes with Workhouse Child, in which three-year-old Lottie is sent to the workhouse after her mother's death, and must claw her way towards a family and future of her own. Together, the seven novels form a rich portrait of resilience and hard-won hope in early twentieth-century working-class Britain.

  • A thoughtful gift for saga and historical fiction readers.

About the Author:
Maggie Hope is a pen name used by author Una Horne. Born in County Durham during the Depression of the 1930s, she is the daughter of a coal miner, raised alongside three sisters in a small miner's cottage. She left school at sixteen to train as a nurse, before giving up nursing to marry and raise a family. She did not begin writing until her 50s, but has since become a Sunday Times bestselling author of saga novels rooted in the North East of England.

Why You'll Love This Collection:
Warm, emotionally rich and steeped in genuine Northern history, this seven-book set delivers hardship, hope and happy endings in equal measure — perfect for a cosy binge-read or a treasured gift.
