About the Books
Mark Twain's fiction captures America at a turning point, blending humour, adventure, and biting social commentary. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer introduces the mischievous boy whose escapades along the Mississippi have delighted readers for generations, while its companion volume brings together Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective for further adventure. The Prince & The Pauper swaps identities between a pauper boy and young royal to expose the absurdities of class and privilege. Pudd'nhead Wilson & The Mysterious Stranger pairs a clever courtroom mystery with Twain's darker, philosophical late work questioning fate and morality. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court sends a nineteenth-century engineer back to Camelot, using time-travel satire to skewer superstition and inequality. Finally, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn follows Huck and the runaway Jim down the Mississippi in a novel widely regarded as a cornerstone of American literature, tackling race, freedom, and conscience with unflinching honesty. Together, these six volumes trace the full range of Twain's genius, from boyhood comedy to mature social critique.
About the Author
Mark Twain is the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835–1910), one of America's most celebrated writers. Raised in Missouri along the Mississippi River, Twain worked as a printer, riverboat pilot, and journalist before finding fame as a novelist and humourist. His pen name refers to a river-piloting call meaning "two fathoms deep." Renowned for his sharp wit and clear-eyed social observation, Twain's novels remain some of the most widely read and studied works in American literature.
