Overview:
Escape to the riverside town of Marlow with this collection of three witty, addictive mysteries by Robert Thorogood, creator of BBC's Death in Paradise. Follow crossword-setter Judith Potts and her friends Suzie and Becks as they outwit the local police to solve murder after murder. Packed with clever plotting, sharp dialogue and gentle humour, this cosy crime series suits fans of Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club who love armchair detective puzzles with heart and English charm.
About the Books:
The set opens with The Marlow Murder Club, in which seventy-seven-year-old Judith Potts hears a gunshot while swimming in the Thames one evening. Convinced a murder has taken place, and dismissed by the police, she teams up with dog-walker Suzie Harris and vicar's wife Becks Starling to investigate — only to discover a serial killer is at large. In Death Comes to Marlow, the trio attend a pre-wedding celebration when the groom-to-be is found dead in his locked study; the police call it an accident, but the women suspect otherwise. Finally, The Queen of Poisons sees Marlow's mayor collapse and die during a council meeting, with deadly aconite found in his coffee, and the trio brought in as civilian advisors to catch a killer hiding in plain sight. Across all three books, Thorogood combines fair-play whodunit plotting with warm characterisation, exploring friendship, ageing and community beneath Marlow's genteel surface. The series has since been adapted into a hit television drama. Each novel stands alone but rewards reading in order, as the friendship between the three women deepens book by book.
