From her arrival on the East Wind to her final adventures with the Banks children, every classic tale is gathered in one brand-new set. About the Book(s)
Mary Poppins arrives on an easterly gust of wind into the lives of Jane and Michael Banks, and nothing at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane is ever quite the same again. Readers meet the impossibly prim, magical nanny with her talking parrot-headed umbrella and bottomless carpet bag. Mary Poppins Comes Back sees her return on a kite string just when the children need her most, while Mary Poppins Opens the Door brings her back in a burst of fireworks on a dark November night. Mary Poppins in the Park gathers whimsical episodes from all three of her visits, blurring the line between dream and reality. Finally, Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane / Mary Poppins and the House Next Door rounds out the set with further mischief, from fantastical picnics to a trip to see the Man-in-the-Moon. Told with Travers' distinctive wit and gentle mystery, these stories have delighted readers since 1934, inspiring the classic 1964 Disney film and long-running stage musical. This paperback collection preserves the charm of the originals for repeat reading, read-alouds, and passing down through a family.
About the Author
P. L. Travers (born Helen Lyndon Goff) was an Australian-born British novelist, actress, and journalist who created Mary Poppins in 1934. Writing under her pen name, she crafted a series blending sharp wit with gentle, imaginative storytelling that became a cornerstone of children's literature. Her work inspired the beloved 1964 Disney film and later stage adaptations in the West End and on Broadway. In recognition of her contribution to literature, Travers was made an OBE in 1977.
