Overview
This three-book paperback collection brings together Nick Harkaway's most acclaimed novels in one unmissable bundle. From the Cold War intrigue of Karla's Choice, set in the world of John le Carré's George Smiley, to the genre-bending brilliance of The Gone-Away World and the clockwork thriller Angelmaker, this set showcases a writer celebrated for razor-sharp wit, inventive plotting and deep emotional intelligence. A superb introduction or a treat for existing fans.
About the Books
Karla's Choice is set in spring 1963, in the missing decade between two of John le Carré's most iconic Smiley novels. George Smiley has left the Circus for a quieter life, but a Russian defector and a missing man draw him back into a dangerous game of Cold War espionage. Written by le Carré's son, it is a note-perfect return to Smiley's world.
The Gone-Away World is Harkaway's genre-defying debut: a post-apocalyptic adventure in which the Jorgmund Pipe, the fragile backbone holding the ruined world together, bursts into flame. Gonzo Lubitsch and his wry, unnamed best friend are sent to fight the blaze, uncovering corporate conspiracy and their own shared past along the way. Equal parts dark comedy, speculative fiction and philosophical adventure, it remains a cult favourite.
Angelmaker follows Joe Spork, a mild-mannered clockmaker's son, and Edie Banister, a nonagenarian former superspy, after Joe unwittingly activates a doomsday device disguised as a clockwork toy. Shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award, it blends steampunk invention, tender character work and pulse-quickening suspense into one of Harkaway's most beloved novels.
About the Author
