Overview
Escape to the lush jungles, wild coastlines and mountain ranges of Serendib in this gripping three-book paperback collection from Nizrana Farook. Following brave, resourceful young heroes as they outwit thieves, sea monsters and poachers, these fast-paced middle-grade adventures combine vivid Sri Lankan-inspired settings with courage, friendship and animal rescue. Perfect for readers aged 9-12 who love page-turning adventure fiction with heart, humour and a strong sense of place.
About the Books
This collection brings together three standalone adventures set in the fictional island nation of Serendib, inspired by author Nizrana Farook's Sri Lankan childhood. In The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, quick-thinking Chaya is branded a thief after stealing the Queen's jewels for the best of reasons, fleeing on a stolen elephant through leech-infested jungle while revolution brews around her. The Boy Who Met a Whale follows fisherboy Razi and his sister Shifa as they run away to sea, drawn by a mysterious stranger's tales of treasure and sea monsters, only to discover the truth is far more dangerous. In The Girl Who Lost a Leopard, wild-at-heart Selvi roams the mountains alongside Lokka, a beautiful leopard she loves, but when danger threatens, Selvi must fight to protect her home and her closest companion. Each book stands alone, so young readers can enjoy them in any order, though together they share a richly imagined world, strong-willed protagonists, and themes of courage and loyalty. With short chapters and plenty of jeopardy, these are ideal adventure stories for confident readers moving into longer middle-grade fiction.
