Overview
Meet Damian Drooth, the self-appointed No.1 Boy Detective, in this hugely popular ten-book paperback collection from Barbara Mitchelhill, brought to life with Tony Ross's rib-tickling illustrations. Bursting with mysteries, mischief and laugh-out-loud mishaps, this set follows Damian and his gang of trainee detectives as they investigate everything from missing dogs to dastardly popstar plots. Perfect for newly confident readers aged 7-9, it's an ideal way to build reading stamina while having plenty of fun along the way.
About the Books
Damian Drooth is convinced he's the finest detective around, and across these ten short, punchy stories he's given plenty of cases to prove it. In The Case of the Disappearing Daughter, Damian is plunged into the glamorous but deceitful world of filmmaking, while The Popstar's Wedding sees him guarding a superstar's wedding presents from notorious crooks. How To Be a Detective finds Damian passing on his skills to eager young apprentices with hilarious results, and Spycatcher, Serious Graffiti and Under Cover each bring fresh school-based capers full of misunderstandings and clever twists. Dog Snatchers has Damian tracking a missing pet, Gruesome Ghosts sends him on a spooky overnight stakeout, Football Forgery uncovers a ticket-forging scheme at the local match, and The Mega Quiz wraps up the set with a competition gone wonderfully wrong. Each story is written in short chapters with plenty of illustrations from Tony Ross, making them accessible for children moving into their first chapter books. The humour is warm, the mysteries are gently challenging rather than scary, and Damian's overconfidence is always good for a laugh. Collected together, these ten adventures offer excellent value, giving young readers a whole series without needing to search for the next instalment.
