Overview:
Onyeka and the Secret Superhero is a punchy World Book Day 2024 adventure set within Tolá Okogwu's action-packed Onyeka series. Twelve-year-old Onyeka, a student at the Academy of the Sun, is sent to investigate a series of freak weather incidents in a remote village alongside her friends. What they uncover is a mysterious new Solari with extraordinary superpowers, sparking an urgent question that drives this fast, fun, standalone adventure: friend, or foe?

About the Book:
Written as a special, lower-priced World Book Day title, Onyeka and the Secret Superhero sits comfortably within the wider Onyeka universe, following on from Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun and Onyeka and the Rise of the Rebels, while remaining fully accessible to readers meeting Onyeka for the first time. The story keeps its focus tight: a mission, a mystery, and a brand-new Solari whose powers and motives aren't yet clear. Fans of school-for-superheroes stories, Percy Jackson, Marvel and DC will recognise the tone immediately — bold action sequences balanced with warmth, humour and a strong emotional core. Onyeka herself remains the highlight: brave, thoughtful and fiercely loyal to her friends, she navigates the tension between trusting a stranger and protecting the people she cares about. Along the way, the story touches on climate anxiety, responsibility and the courage it takes to do the right thing even when the outcome is uncertain. Because it's a World Book Day edition, the pacing is brisk and the page count shorter than a full-length Onyeka novel, making it an excellent entry point for newly confident readers or a satisfying extra adventure for existing fans keen to fill in the gaps between the main series instalments. Okogwu's world-building — Solari powers, the Academy of the Sun, and the vivid Nigerian-inspired mythology underpinning the series — continues to feel fresh, inclusive and genuinely thrilling throughout.

  • A World Book Day 2024 tie-in — a fun, lower-cost way to explore the bestselling Onyeka series.
  • Features Onyeka, a brave young superhero, ideal for fans of Percy Jackson, Marvel and DC.
  • Short, fast-paced format perfect for growing independent readers aged 8 and up.
  • Bridges the story between Onyeka and the Rise of the Rebels and Onyeka and the Heroes of the Dawn.
  • Themes of courage, trust and identity woven into an action-packed superhero adventure.
  • Brand new paperback — an easy, affordable gift for any young reader.
