Overview
Period. It's About Bloody Time is Emma Barnett's frank, funny and fearless exploration of menstruation, drawing on her own experiences and those of women around the world. Written by the award-winning former BBC Woman's Hour presenter, this hardback rallying cry tackles the shame, silence and stigma that still surrounds periods in the 21st century, mixing personal storytelling with sharp social commentary. It is a book for every woman - and man - who has ever wondered why something so natural remains so taboo.

About the Book
Emma Barnett loathes her period - but she loathes the silence around it even more. In this candid and often hilarious book, she asks why women have spent millennia bleeding in secret, whispering euphemisms like 'Auntie Flo' rather than simply saying the word 'period' out loud. Drawing together her own frank confessions with the stories, struggles and triumphs of women from all walks of life, Barnett interrogates period poverty, period pain, the menopause, endometriosis, contraception, period politics and the experiences of transgender men who menstruate. She examines why period education remains patchy, why period products are still taxed and stigmatised, and why so many workplaces and schools fail women during their monthly cycle. Blending journalism, memoir and rallying call, this hardback is by turns laugh-out-loud funny and quietly devastating, forcing readers to confront just how little society talks honestly about a process experienced by roughly half the population. It is a book that refuses to be coy, packed with interviews, research and Barnett's own trademark wit, designed to spark conversation at the kitchen table, in the classroom and in the boardroom alike.
