Overview
Follow Will Treaty's journey from castle ward to skilled Ranger across all twelve books of John Flanagan's bestselling series. Set in the medieval-inspired Kingdom of Araluen, this collection delivers archery, tracking, court intrigue and battles against Skandian raiders and shadowy sorcerers. A firm favourite with reluctant and avid readers alike, it's the perfect gift set for fans of fast-paced fantasy adventure with real emotional depth and dry humour.
About the Books
The saga begins with The Ruins of Gorlan, introducing orphan Will as he is chosen — against his own wishes — to train under the mysterious Ranger Halt rather than the Battleschool he dreamed of. Across the following books, Will grows from a nervous apprentice into one of the Kingdom's most capable Rangers, forging lifelong friendships with Horace, Evanlyn, Alyss and the boisterous Skandian Erak. The series moves from tense training in the forests of Redmont to full-scale wars, sea voyages and sieges across foreign lands including Skandia, Nihon-Ja and Arrida. Flanagan blends coming-of-age themes — self-doubt, loyalty, courage and mentorship — with gripping plotting and real crossover appeal beyond the core 9-12 age bracket. Later titles such as Halt's Peril and The Emperor of Nihon-Ja raise the stakes considerably, while The Lost Stories fills gaps across the timeline and The Royal Ranger passes the torch to a new apprentice. Told with wit and tight pacing, the saga rewards reading in order and is widely recommended for middle-grade and young teen readers.
About the Author
John Flanagan is an Australian author best known for creating the Ranger's Apprentice series, which has sold millions of copies worldwide in numerous languages. A former advertising copywriter, TV scriptwriter and journalist, Flanagan originally wrote short stories for his son before expanding them into a full series drawing on his love of adventure fiction. He has since written the companion Brotherband Chronicles, set in the same universe, and remains one of the most popular authors in modern middle-grade fantasy.
