Overview
The Retired Teacher Mysteries 3 Books Collection Set brings together J.M Hall's warm, witty and wonderfully Yorkshire cosy crime series in one paperback bundle. Following retired primary school teachers Liz, Thelma and Pat as they trade staffroom gossip for amateur sleuthing, this set is perfect for fans of Richard Osman-style mysteries who love gentle suspense, sharp humour and a strong cup of tea alongside their whodunits.
About the Books
Every Thursday, three retired schoolteachers meet for coffee and cake at the Thirsk Garden Centre café. In A Spoonful of Murder, their world is upended when former colleague Topsy turns up looking frail and confused, only to be found dead a week later. Convinced there is more to her death than the official story suggests, Liz, Thelma and Pat begin quietly asking questions no one else dares to ask. In A Pen Dipped in Poison, the trio's sleuthing continues when anonymous letters begin arriving across town, exposing secrets, ending careers and destroying marriages. As suspicion spreads through the community, the friends must work out who is willing to go to such extreme lengths to silence their neighbours. Finally, in A Clock Stopped Dead, a bizarre incident sees a local charity shop seemingly vanish overnight, drawing Liz, Thelma and Pat into their strangest case yet. Across all three novels, Hall balances light, character-driven comedy with real emotional depth, exploring friendship, ageing and community life in a small Yorkshire town. Each book stands as a complete mystery while building a richer picture of the three friends and the town of Thirsk they call home, making this collection ideal for readers working through the series in order or gifting the whole set at once.
About the Author
J.M Hall is the pen name of Jon Hall, a Yorkshire-based author, playwright and former deputy head of a primary school. Before turning to fiction, he wrote extensively for radio and stage, including the BBC Radio 4 series Trust. Drawing on decades spent in primary education, Hall created the beloved trio of Liz, Thelma and Pat, whose adventures began with his debut novel A Spoonful of Murder and have since grown into a much-loved cosy crime series.
