Overview
This paperback set brings together Richard Coles' two loved memoirs. From pop star to parish priest, Coles writes with warmth, candour and wit. Fans of memoir and religious life will find these books a rewarding pairing, ideal for reading or gifting.
About the Books
Fathomless Riches: Or How I Went From Pop to Pulpit is Coles' acclaimed memoir tracing his path from head chorister to founding member of the Communards, whose single reached number one, through fame and struggle, to ordination. Told with searing honesty, it explores sexuality, addiction, grief and faith, praised as one of the most readable memoirs of its year. Bringing in the Sheaves: Wheat and Chaff from My Years as a Priest continues the story, following Coles through parish ministry across the church calendar, from ordination through Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Written in the same conversational, funny voice, it offers a grounded look at what parish life involves, comedy and crisis alongside quiet grace. Together the two titles form a natural pairing: one charts the transformation from pop stardom to priesthood, the other shows what came next, season by season, in an English parish. Both are praised for combining humour with genuine emotional and spiritual depth, and both stand alone as excellent reads for anyone curious about faith, fame, or simply a well-told life story.
About the Author
The Reverend Richard Coles is an English writer, broadcaster and Church of England priest. Before ordination he was a member of the 1980s pop group the Communards, whose "Don't Leave Me This Way" was the UK's biggest-selling single of its year. He later became a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live and is also author of the bestselling Canon Clement cosy crime series, bringing the same warmth and wit to fiction as to his memoirs.
Why You'll Love This Set
An engrossing, funny and moving pair of memoirs from one of Britain's most distinctive voices, spanning pop fame and parish life. A rewarding read and a lovely gift for memoir lovers, clergy, and anyone drawn to honest storytelling.
