Overview
Step into the rain-slicked streets of magical London with this complete nine-book paperback collection of Ben Aaronovitch's bestselling Rivers of London series. Following probationary constable Peter Grant from his first brush with the supernatural through to his ninth full-length case, this set delivers witty police-procedural plotting fused with inventive urban fantasy. Perfect for fans of Jim Butcher or Neil Gaiman, or anyone who loves London as a character in its own right, this collection is a must for completists and newcomers alike.
About the Books
The Rivers of London series follows Peter Grant, a young Metropolitan Police constable who discovers a talent for magic and is recruited into the Folly, a small, forgotten branch of the force dealing with the supernatural, under DCI Thomas Nightingale. Across these nine novels, Peter investigates jazz-related deaths in Soho, warring river goddesses, ghosts haunting the Underground, a tower-block fire, a child abduction in rural Herefordshire, a rogue magician known as the Faceless Man, and a tech start-up with unnatural ambitions. Each book pairs a sharp mystery with an ongoing arc, as Peter's magical education and relationships with a memorable cast — including Nightingale, Leslie May and Beverley Brook — deepen book by book. Aaronovitch's dry narration and grounding in real London geography and policing procedure have made this one of the most acclaimed urban fantasy series of recent decades, praised for its humour, diverse voice, and refusal to take magic or the Met too seriously.
About the Author
Ben Aaronovitch is a British author and screenwriter, born in London in 1964. Before turning to novels, he worked in television, writing scripts for Doctor Who — including the acclaimed serial Remembrance of the Daleks — and for Casualty. He launched the Rivers of London series in 2011, and it has since grown into one of the most popular urban fantasy series in the UK, selling in the millions and being translated into more than twenty languages. Aaronovitch continues to live and write in London, the city that inspires his fiction.
