Overview
False Value is the eighth full-length novel in Ben Aaronovitch's bestselling Rivers of London series, blending police procedural grit with London's hidden magical underworld. Peter Grant, the Met's first trainee wizard in fifty years, swaps river gods and ghosts for Silicon Roundabout's tech scene when he goes undercover at a cutting-edge London startup. Fans will find the same sharp wit, richly detailed London setting and clever fusion of magic and modern life that made earlier books word-of-mouth hits, now aimed at artificial intelligence and the arcane.

About the Book
Drawn into the orbit of Old Street's famous 'silicon roundabout', Peter Grant must learn to blend in among civilians who are, awkwardly, geekier than he is. Compared with his last assignment, it should be a doddle. But magic is never quite finished with London's first trainee wizard in half a century. Peter takes an undercover job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand-new London startup, the Serious Cybernetics Company, only to discover a secret hidden somewhere within the building. It's a technology with roots stretching back to Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage, and forward into the future of artificial intelligence: a secret every bit as magical as it is technological, and twice as dangerous. Combining Aaronovitch's trademark blend of crime thriller pacing, dry London humour and inventive urban fantasy world-building, False Value pushes the Rivers of London mythology into new territory while delivering the character-driven storytelling long-term readers expect. Expect appearances from familiar faces in the Folly and the wider series universe, alongside new characters from the tech world. This hardback edition presents the novel exactly as originally published, making it an excellent addition for collectors and series completists.
