About the Books
This boxed set brings together all four novels and both short story collections in the Sherlock Holmes canon, beginning with A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four, which introduce Holmes and Dr Watson's partnership at 221B Baker Street. The Adventures and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes collect the most celebrated short stories, showcasing Holmes's astonishing powers of observation and deduction. The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Valley of Fear deliver two of the most atmospheric mysteries in the canon, blending gothic suspense with meticulous detective work. Finally, The Return of Sherlock Holmes and His Last Bow, together with The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes, round out the collection with later stories that continue to test Holmes's brilliant mind against London's most cunning criminals. Each volume features an Afterword, offering added context for readers old and new. Together, the six books form a complete introduction to one of literature's greatest creations, perfect for reading in sequence or dipping into at will.
About the Author
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859 and died in 1930. Trained as a doctor at Edinburgh University, he began writing while waiting for patients at his Southsea practice, drawing on the diagnostic methods of one of his professors to shape Holmes's famous deductive skills. His success as an author soon allowed him to abandon medicine altogether. Doyle was also a tireless campaigner, championing causes from divorce law reform to wrongful conviction cases, and later became a passionate advocate of spiritualism. He remains one of the most widely read writers in the English language.
