Overview:
Silver Sparrow is a powerful novel of family, secrets and sisterhood from Tayari Jones, the acclaimed author of An American Marriage. Set against the backdrop of 1980s Atlanta, it tells the story of two half-sisters bound together by their father's hidden double life. Told with warmth, wit and devastating honesty, this is a story about identity, loyalty and the fragile bonds that hold families together, perfect for readers who love emotionally rich, character-driven fiction.

About the Book:
At the heart of Silver Sparrow is James Witherspoon, a bigamist quietly running two households in the same city. Dana Yarboro is his "secret" daughter, always aware of her father's other family, forced to watch from the shadows as her half-sister Chaurisse enjoys a life of legitimacy Dana can never claim. Chaurisse, meanwhile, has no idea her father is living a double life until the two girls' paths cross and an unlikely friendship begins to form. Narrated in turn by both young women, the novel moves deftly between their perspectives, building a portrait of two families whose fates are inseparably entwined. Jones writes with extraordinary empathy for every character, refusing easy villains and instead exploring how ordinary people justify extraordinary deceptions. The novel is steeped in the rhythms and textures of a Black middle-class Atlanta rarely seen in fiction, and its themes of class, colourism, loyalty and betrayal give it a depth that has made it a favourite of book clubs and literary critics alike. As secrets unravel and the girls' friendship is tested, Silver Sparrow builds toward a quietly devastating reckoning with truth, forgiveness and what it really means to belong to a family.
