About the Books
This collection brings together twelve stories from Dick King-Smith, split between the classic Sophie Stories and six further stand-alone favourites. The Sophie titles - Sophie's Snail, Sophie's Tom, Sophie Hits Six, Sophie's Lucky, Sophie Is Seven and Sophie in the Saddle - follow spirited, determined young Sophie as she works towards becoming a farmer, saving her pocket money for a cow, hens, a pony and a pig, while getting into scrapes along the way. Younger readers will love her honesty and unstoppable enthusiasm for animals. The remaining six titles - My Animal Friends, Clever Lollipop, Lady Lollipop, Aristotle, The Twin Giants and The Finger-Eater - showcase the breadth of King-Smith's storytelling, from an autobiographical animal-filled memoir to warm-hearted fables featuring trolls, giants and a very unusual pig. Each book is a quick read, ideal for building confidence in newly independent readers or for sharing at bedtime. Together the twelve books make a fantastic introduction to one of the most trusted names in British children's fiction.

He wrote around 130 books, translated worldwide and selling over 15 million copies, including The Sheep-Pig (filmed as Babe), The Hodgeheg and the Sophie stories. He was made OBE in 2010 and died in 2011, aged eighty-eight.
