About the Author
Sylvia Plath was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1932 and studied at Smith College before attending Cambridge University on a Fulbright scholarship, where she met and later married the poet Ted Hughes. She published one poetry collection in her lifetime, The Colossus, and her only novel, The Bell Jar, before her death in London in 1963. Her posthumous Collected Poems won the Pulitzer Prize in 1982, and she is widely credited as a pioneer of confessional poetry.
