Overview
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the legendary first collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories, bringing together twelve of the most celebrated cases ever solved by literature's greatest detective. From A Scandal in Bohemia to The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, these tightly plotted mysteries showcase Arthur Conan Doyle's genius for suspense, deduction and unforgettable character. A must-own paperback edition for classic crime fiction lovers, collectors and anyone discovering Baker Street for the first time.
About the Book
First published in 1892, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes collects twelve short stories that originally appeared in The Strand Magazine, cementing Sherlock Holmes as the world's most famous fictional detective. Narrated throughout by his loyal friend and biographer Dr John Watson, the collection opens with the iconic A Scandal in Bohemia and moves through a run of ingenious, tightly wound mysteries including The Red-Headed League, The Speckled Band and The Man with the Twisted Lip. Each story is a self-contained puzzle, allowing readers to watch Holmes apply his famous methods of observation and deduction to unravel crimes that baffle the police, wealthy clients and ordinary Londoners alike. Set against a richly atmospheric backdrop of Victorian London — foggy streets, gaslit studies and country manors — the stories established the template for the modern detective story and influenced generations of crime writers who followed. This edition brings the complete original text to new readers in an accessible paperback format, perfect for a first introduction to Holmes or for revisiting these timeless tales. Whether read in order or dipped into story by story, the collection remains as gripping, witty and endlessly rereadable today as it was on first publication over a century ago.
About the Author
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a Scottish writer and physician best known as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, one of the most enduring characters in literary history. Trained as a doctor in Edinburgh, Doyle drew on his medical background to shape Holmes's forensic style of reasoning. Beyond the Holmes canon, he wrote historical novels, science fiction and non-fiction, but it is his detective stories, first collected in this volume, that secured his lasting fame worldwide.
