Overview
Discover the opening act of one of fantasy's most beloved sagas with this collected paperback edition of The Belgariad. Following farm boy Garion as he stumbles into a destiny far greater than himself, these first three instalments — Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery and Magician's Gambit — set the stage for an epic confrontation between sorcery, prophecy and an ancient evil god. A must-have entry point for new readers and long-time fans of classic fantasy alike.
About the Books
The Belgariad begins with Pawn of Prophecy, in which farm lad Garion grows up hearing tales of the sorcerer Belgarath and the evil god Torak, who once fought over the Orb of Aldur. What seems like simple storytelling soon proves otherwise, as Garion discovers a destiny bound up with ancient prophecy. In Queen of Sorcery, the stakes rise as a priest of Torak races to reawaken his slumbering god, with Belgarath, his daughter Polgara, and Garion in pursuit — while Garion's own sorcerous power begins to stir. The trilogy concludes in Magician's Gambit, as the long-foretold clash between the maimed god Torak and the descendant of the Rivan line draws near. Garion, now grasping his role, travels toward a sinister tower where Torak lies sleeping, accompanied by Belgarath and the fiery princess Ce'Nedra. Together these three novels lay the groundwork for one of the genre's most influential adventures, blending classic quest-fantasy with vivid characters and a richly imagined world.
About the Author
David Eddings (1931–2009) published his first novel, High Hunt, in 1973, before turning to fantasy with The Belgariad, later followed by The Malloreon. Born in Spokane, Washington, and raised near Seattle, he earned degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington. He served in the US Army and worked various jobs, including as a grocery clerk and college English teacher, before writing full time. He lived in Nevada until his death at age 77, leaving a body of work that helped define modern fantasy fiction.
