Overview
The Business of Sleep by Vicki Culpin is a compelling non-fiction guide for professionals, leaders and HR teams who want to understand the true cost of poor sleep in the workplace. Drawing on decades of psychological research, Culpin explains why sleep deprivation is not simply a personal inconvenience but a serious organisational risk. This hardback edition combines rigorous science with practical, actionable strategies, making it an essential addition to any business or personal development bookshelf.

About the Book
Many high achievers wear a lack of sleep as a badge of honour, believing that working longer hours on less rest is the price of success. Vicki Culpin dismantles this myth, showing how chronic sleep deprivation quietly erodes decision-making, communication, creativity and innovation long before it becomes obvious to the person affected. The book opens with striking historical examples of how fatigue-related errors contributed to some of the twentieth century's most notorious disasters, before shifting focus to the everyday workplace, where the consequences are less dramatic but no less costly. Culpin draws on both classic sleep science and cutting-edge research, alongside original interviews with CEOs, coaches and business leaders, to build a clear and accessible picture of how sleep actually works and why so many of us get it wrong. Rather than simply diagnosing the problem, The Business of Sleep is deliberately solution-focused. It offers organisations and individuals practical, evidence-based strategies for reducing the impact of compromised sleep, covering everything from workplace culture and leadership behaviour to personal habits that protect long-term wellbeing and performance. Written in a clear, engaging style, it suits HR professionals, managers and individuals alike, reframing sleep not as a soft wellbeing perk but as a hard-edged business issue with measurable consequences for productivity and success.
