Overview

The Curious Bartender's Gin Palace is a beautifully illustrated hardback journey through the world of gin, from bestselling mixologist Tristan Stephenson. Charting gin's evolution from a medieval herbal remedy to today's booming craft-distilling renaissance, this coffee-table-worthy volume blends history, science and hands-on mixology. Packed with distillery visits, botanical breakdowns and a dozen show-stopping cocktail recipes, it's the perfect gift for gin lovers, home bartenders and anyone fascinated by the story behind Britain's most fashionable spirit.

About the Book

Following on from his hugely successful The Curious Bartender and The Curious Bartender: An Odyssey of Malt, Bourbon & Rye Whiskies, Tristan Stephenson turns his attention to gin in this richly detailed hardback. The book traces gin's extraordinary journey, beginning with its origins in the Middle Ages as the herbal medicine 'genever', through its commercialisation and the notorious Gin Craze of mid-18th-century London, right up to its now-legendary pairing with tonic water. Readers travel with Stephenson to the cutting edge of the modern gin boom, exploring the hundreds of distilleries and micro-distilleries that have sprung up worldwide, each producing distinctive craft spirits infused with inventive botanical blends. Along the way, the science of flavour and the alchemy of the distillation process are explained in accessible, engaging detail, alongside profiles of some of the most exciting distilleries and gins on the planet. The book closes with a dozen spectacular cocktail recipes for readers to try at home, including a Purl, a Rickey and a Fruit Cup, allowing Stephenson's mixology expertise to be put straight into practice. Lavishly photographed throughout, this is as much a browsable coffee-table centrepiece as it is a working reference for the home bar, making it a rewarding read whether dipped into casually or studied cover to cover by serious gin enthusiasts.
