Overview
The Friend Mission is the second book in comedian Rosie Jones's warm, witty Amazing Edie Eckhart series, written for World Book Day 2024. Narrated by twelve-year-old Edie, who has cerebral palsy, the story follows the arrival of a new classmate, Mia, who wears hearing aids, and the unexpected friendship that blossoms between them. Funny, honest and full of heart, it's a short, accessible read perfect for reluctant and confident readers alike, celebrating difference, kindness and the everyday adventure of making a new friend.
About the Book
Hi, I'm Edie Eckhart. I'm a little bit different — I have cerebral palsy, so I talk slowly and fall over a lot, but it's never really bothered me because I've never known anything else. It's the start of Year Eight and there's a brand-new girl in Edie's class, all the way from America! Edie can't wait to get to know Mia and her twin brother, Benjamin — this is Thrilling with a capital T, especially when Mrs Adler sits Mia right next to Edie. Mia has a hearing impairment and wears hearing aids, and she seems shy in this unfamiliar new school. Edie knows exactly how scary it can feel to be the new kid, so she sets herself a mission: to be the jam to Mia's jelly. It's time for the Friend Mission! Written for World Book Day 2024, this pocket-sized paperback packs Rosie Jones's trademark warmth and comedy into a fast story about disability, difference and friendship. Fans of Jacqueline Wilson and Dork Diaries will recognise the sparky, laugh-out-loud voice, while Edie's first-person narration offers a joyful window into life with cerebral palsy.
