Overview
Discover the complete Giver Quartet by multi-award-winning author Lois Lowry, gathered together in one essential paperback box set. This four-book collection follows The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger and Son through a series of interconnected dystopian worlds where memory, choice and individuality are precious and fragile. Ideal for readers aged nine and up, this set is a brilliant introduction to speculative fiction, perfect for fans of thought-provoking, character-driven adventure stories and a wonderful gift for any young reader's shelf.
About the Books
The Giver Quartet begins with The Giver, the Newbery Medal-winning novel that helped define modern dystopian fiction. Twelve-year-old Jonas lives in a seemingly perfect community where pain, war and hunger have been eliminated — until he is chosen as the new Receiver of Memory and discovers the unsettling truth behind his world's calm surface. Gathering Blue moves to a harsher settlement, following Kira, an orphaned girl with a physical disability and an extraordinary talent for weaving, as she is drawn into the secrets of the Council of Guardians. Messenger reunites familiar characters in Village, a once-welcoming community turning fearful and closed, where young Matty must undertake a dangerous journey through a changing forest to save the people he loves. Son brings the quartet to its powerful conclusion, following Claire, a Birthmother who will risk everything to find the son who was taken from her at birth. Together, these four novels build a richly imagined world questioning conformity, memory, sacrifice and what it means to be human. Lowry's spare, precise prose has made this series a modern classic, studied in classrooms and cherished by generations of readers.
