Overview
The Longevity Diet is Dr Valter Longo's international bestselling guide to eating for a longer, healthier life. Drawing on decades of research into ageing, nutrition and disease, this brand new paperback distils complex science into a clear, practical eating plan. It's a trusted choice for health-conscious readers, gift buyers and anyone curious about the link between food and lifespan, offering an approachable route into evidence-based nutrition without fads or gimmicks.

About the Book
Written by biochemist and longevity researcher Dr Valter Longo, this book presents the culmination of 30 years of research into cellular regeneration, ageing and diet. Longo, Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California, explains how a largely plant-based, pescatarian everyday diet combined with an occasional fasting-mimicking diet (FMD) - just 3-4 times a year, five days at a time - can help activate the body's own regenerative processes. Rather than promoting extreme restriction, the book sets out an easy-to-adopt lifetime eating plan built around what Longo calls his 'Five Pillars of Longevity', a framework he uses to weigh up whether foods support or undermine long-term health. Readers will find guidance aimed at extending healthy lifespan, preventing age-related muscle and bone loss, building resistance to conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's and cancer, and maintaining a healthy weight. The paperback also includes around 30 straightforward recipes designed to make the principles easy to put into daily practice. Longo's work has been widely discussed in the context of the broader fasting movement, and the book has been praised by prominent health commentators for combining rigorous science with genuinely liveable advice, making it as useful for slow, sustainable lifestyle change as for readers simply wanting to understand the current research on nutrition and ageing.
