Overview
The Saboteur of Auschwitz is Colin Rushton's harrowing, true account of British soldier Arthur Dodd's imprisonment in Auschwitz. Captured in 1942, Dodd endured starvation, forced labour and brutal beatings, yet refused to be broken. He quietly sabotaged German industrial work, risked execution to help starving Jewish prisoners, and supported a partisan resistance network. This paperback memoir is powerful, unflinching wartime testimony for readers who value courage and historical truth.

About the Book
In 1942, young British soldier Arthur Dodd was taken prisoner by the German Army and transported to the town the Nazis renamed Auschwitz. What followed was fourteen months inside one of history's most notorious camps: relentless hard labour, near-starvation rations, and savage violence from his captors. Yet Dodd's story is not simply one of suffering — it is one of quiet, dangerous defiance. He deliberately sabotaged machinery and production lines used for the German war effort, smuggled food and comfort to starving Jewish prisoners at enormous personal risk, and lent his support to a partisan group plotting a mass breakout from the camp. Colin Rushton, who worked closely with Dodd to record his testimony, brings clarity and deep respect for his subject to this account, presented here in a Summersdale paperback edition for a new generation of readers. The narrative sits alongside other acclaimed Auschwitz survivor accounts, offering readers of titles such as The Tattooist of Auschwitz and The Librarian of Auschwitz another essential, first-hand perspective — this time from a British serviceman rather than a camp inmate. It is an important complement to the wider historical record of the camp, told with sensitivity and respect for the millions who did not survive.

  • Authentic, first-hand eyewitness testimony from a British Auschwitz POW
  • Reveals a lesser-told strand of Holocaust history: sabotage and quiet resistance from within the camp
  • Ideal companion read for fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz and The Librarian of Auschwitz
  • Well-suited to history students, book clubs, and general readers of WWII memoirs
  • Compact paperback format, easy to read and share
  • Brand new copy, ready to gift or add to a wartime history collection

About the Author
Colin Rushton was a metallurgist by trade with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, working across many different roles and trades throughout his life while nurturing a long-held ambition to write. He did not retire from his working life until the age of 53, after which he devoted himself to recording the testimonies of survivors of extreme wartime experience, including Arthur Dodd's remarkable story of imprisonment in Auschwitz. Rushton's other work includes further accounts of British experiences of conflict and captivity, reflecting his sustained commitment to preserving first-hand wartime history for future generations.

Why You'll Love This Memoir
Unflinching yet deeply human, this true account of resistance inside Auschwitz offers readers a rare British perspective on one of history's darkest chapters — inspiring, sobering, and impossible to forget.
